About this opportunity:

The Safety Advisor is accountable for providing technical and functional leadership in Health and Safety for the business unit or site. Additionally, this position will champion the implementation of Health and Safety processes that are aligned with Cenovus's Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS) and ensure compliance to regulatory standards and statutes for all aspects of Health and Safety specific to the operations of the assigned business unit. This position will partner with the management of the entity to continue evolving the culture with a focus on continuous improvement.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver on the yearly strategic goals and objectives laid out in the Deployed Health and Safety performance contract for that entity.

  • Assist the entity in developing gap closure plans to close the gaps that are identified and that the closure plans are be carried out to completion.

  • Ensure an assurance and self-verification program is functioning as designed within the entity that includes all elements within COIMS. Carry out assurance activities that are outlined in the assurance plan.

  • Coach & mentor front line leaders and staff on occupational safety helping to improve their knowledge and assist with implementing work safely. This includes collaboration with site leadership to meet and/or exceed Performance Metrics outlined in the entity performance contract.

  • Accountable to provide an independent view of risk from operations. Intervention may be required based on the risk identified.

  • Support and/or lead incident investigations ensuring that the root cause is identified as per the requirements set out in COIMS. This includes coaching and mentoring site leadership to own and drive the actions to prevent re-occurrence.

  • Foster collaboration between the Deployed Health and Safety team and the Central Health and Safety Team, leveraging the Technical Authorities and multi-disciplinary support as a conduit for communication.

Who you are:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Completed related post-secondary education (i.e. Occupational Health & Safety). A combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Working knowledge of Regulatory requirements in the oil and gas industry.

  • Minimum of 5-7- years experience in a Health and Safety environment in the oil and gas industry leading/supervising staff.

  • Minimum of 3-5 yrs. experience with Root Cause Analysis and Incident Investigations;

  • Working knowledge of performing safety audits and inspections, and experience working with 3rd party consultants and contractors.

The following training /certifications are considered an asset:

  • Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent

  • Process Safety Related Training (PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, P&ID Interpretation)

  • Root Cause Analysis certification (i.e., Sologic)

This position will require the successful candidate to:

  • Have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license

  • Undergo required background checks and pre-employment medical testing subject to the Cenovus Drug and Alcohol policy.
