Highways and Public Works, Transportation Maintenance Branch has a training opportunity for you. As an entry level apprenticeship you will have an opportunity to learn a trade and receive valuable first-hand experience while earning a competitive salary.

Reporting to the Automotive Mechanical Foreman, an Apprentice Automotive Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing and overhauling light and medium duty vehicles, as well as mobile and stationary equipment.

To be successful in this role you must be able to deal with the manual and physical requirements of working in a shop setting as well as working with typical tools of the trade.

Essential Qualifications (what we're looking for in your resume):

  • Interest and/or experience working in an automotive shop performing basic mechanical repairs and maintenance will also be considered.
  • Understanding of basic mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of mobile and stationary equipment such as chain saws, brush cutters, generators and water pumps.

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver's license,
  • WHMIS certification (within one month of hire),
  • Successful enrollment in Yukon Apprenticeship Program (within 3 months).


Job Requirements

  • Lift heavy objects;
  • Work in adverse weather conditions;
  • Work at heights of 6-10 feet;
  • Steel toe work boots;
  • Basic tool kit;
  • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment.
