What the position entails: Does the prospect of working in the field and the office energize you? Are you an experienced Survey Technician looking for a new opportunity? If you answered yes to these questions – this may be the role for you! Our dynamic Geomatics team is looking for a Survey Technician in Telkwa, BC. Ideally, you are organized and highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that encourages this attitude in all team members. You will have a strong handle on equipment and field tools, with a healthy respect for the outdoors and the timeline of the task at hand. You believe in working safely and refuse to compromise your and others’ safety by taking shortcuts to save time. With a variety of local projects in place and the ability to be a part of multiple disciplines of Geomatics in the field. You will collaborate with and mentor alongside local Project Managers and be tied to the larger GeoVerra family network. This role is located locally in Telkwa and the successful candidate would be required to relocate to Telkwa or Smithers if they do not already reside there. What you will do: Manage and perform construction and legal survey work in the field and office. Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology. Act as a company representative and liaise directly with client field representatives and landowners. Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in proper formats for Project Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel. Provide guidance, training and mentorship to team members. Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology. Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the GeoVerra safety program. Perform office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned. What you will bring: A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary program in surveying and geomatics or an equivalent amount of related experience. 3-5 Years experience in a Survey Technician role completing construction and legal survey fieldwork is required. Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic). Experience with Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating considered an asset. Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce accurate and legible field notes. The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment. An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget. Job Conditions: Primarily local work but there may be travel required to support other projects. There is the possibly for a night shift on an infrequent basis. Carrying, lifting, and pushing up to 50lbs on a regular basis. Working outside in all weather conditions.
