Make your mark while you grow your career! We are seeking an experienced Project Geophysicist - Carbon Capture and Storage to join our growing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) team. In this role, you will lead seismic interpretation and monitoring programs to support CCS projects across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. You will characterize subsurface reservoirs and support Measurement, Monitoring, and Verification (MMV) programs.
- Job location: Calgary, Alberta
- Work schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts (Monday – Friday)
- Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
- Lead 2D and 3D seismic interpretation for CCS site characterization, including horizon and fault mapping, reservoir and seal assessment, as well as integrate well data (logs, core, and geomechanical) to support static and dynamic models
- Collaborate with reservoir engineering, geology, and operations teams to develop injection strategies and monitor pressure plumes
- Design, implement, and manage seismicity monitoring programs, including passive seismic and microseismic arrays
- Develop and apply Traffic Light Protocols (TLP) and Monitoring, Mitigation, and Response (MMR) plans in compliance with government directives for carbon storage
- Conduct seismic hazard and risk assessments, incorporating pressure diffusion, poroelastic stress changes, Coulomb failure analysis, and physics‑based or statistical forecasting methods
- Liaise with JV partners, industry consortia, and academic collaborators to share data, develop joint models, align monitoring strategies, and support regulatory submissions
What You Bring to the Role:
- Degree in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or related (M.Sc. or Ph.D. preferred)
- Registered or eligible to register with APEGA
- 5+ years in seismic interpretation and induced seismicity monitoring, preferably in CCS, fluid disposal, geothermal, or oil and gas
- Technical Expertise:
- Seismic interpretation using industry software (e.g. Seisware, Petrel, Hampson & Russell, Geographix, Subsurface AI)
- Hands‑on experience with passive seismic analysis, poroelastic and pressure‑diffusion modeling, and seismicity forecasting using coupled models
- Strong knowledge of Alberta regulatory requirements, particularly AER Directive 065, TLP/MMR plans, and Area of Review processes
- Experience developing and applying international CCS analogs to inform local risk assessments and model calibration
- Familiarity with the Basal Cambrian Sandstone (BCS) of the WCSB is an asset
- Strong understanding of seismology, poroelasticity, pressure diffusion, and Coulomb stress transfer as applied to CCS
- Ability to translate complex geophysical analyses into clear, actionable guidance and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, JV partners, and regulators
- Strong analytical, communication, and report‑writing skills, including preparation of regulatory and technical documentation
