What we’re looking for:

Kongsberg Geospatial is seeking a full-time Systems Administrator to join our support team. This role is responsible for the installation, administration, maintenance, and optimization of computer systems, networks, and IT infrastructure within a heterogeneous Linux and Windows research and development environment to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing operations.

The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of computer hardware and software, networking concepts, internet applications, and operating systems, along with hands-on experience supporting enterprise networks and troubleshooting complex technical issues. Experience with network administration, connectivity, cybersecurity, and system performance monitoring is essential. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible for and capable of obtaining and maintaining NATO Secret security clearance, with sponsorship and support provided by Kongsberg.

This position requires in-office work at the Kanata office 5 days per week.

Duties include:

    • Managing daily tickets in help desk system
    • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems
    • Assist with system upgrades, patches and backups
    • Build new laptops and install approved applications
    • Develop and maintain local switches, firewalls and wireless access points
    • Document IT processes and maintain inventory of both equipment and licenses
    • Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of networks and computer systems
    • Support the onboarding/offboarding process
    • Collaborate with vendors and third-party service providers
    • Manage and maintain server environments, virtualization platforms, and enterprise storage systems
    • Administer Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud infrastructure
    • Maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions
    • Perform patch management, system upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance across Linux and Windows environments
    • Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, logs, and security alerts to ensure optimal operations and proactively address risks
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, system, and application issues
    • Administer and support mixed Linux environments (Debian, RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu, SUSE, etc.) and Windows Server/Desktop systems
    • Diagnose and resolve advanced OS-level performance issues, including CPU, memory, and I/O bottlenecks
    • Optimize and troubleshoot file system performance, including NFS and SMB environments
    • Manage identity and authentication integrations, including SAML, OIDC, Active Directory, SSSD, and Kerberos
    • Administer core infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, and directory services
    • Support and maintain virtualization and container platforms, including Proxmox, VMware, Hyper-V
    • Support engineering and compute environments, including build servers, CI/CD agents, Docker, and job schedulers
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash and PowerShell – experience with other tools is valuable (Python, Ansible)
    • Participate in incident response, containment activities
    • Identify recurring operational issues and implement sustainable long-term solutions
    • Collaborate with the DevOps and engineering teams to support enterprise initiatives
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of security frameworks and compliance standards, including NIST, ISO 27001, and CMMC
    • Execute controlled infrastructure changes while adhering to strict SOPs and audit requirements
    • Support user access provisioning processes in accordance with approval and compliance procedures

Required Skills:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a field related to IT or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Strong Linux administration across multiple distros
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Understanding of computer networking
  • Experience using ticket systems for daily workload
  • Knowledge of security protocols and services
  • Solid Windows Server administration (GPO, AD, PowerShell)
  • Experience with:
    • Scripting (Bash, Python, PowerShell)
    • Config management (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
    • Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Nagios, etc.)
  • Understanding of hybrid identity (AD + Linux integration / AD + Entra)
  • Storage systems (NAS, SAN) and protocols
  • Server performance monitoring
  • Patch management
  • Understanding of:
    • NIST 800-171 (or ITSP.10.171) with respect to CMMC and CPCSC
    • Export Controls
    • ISO 27001
  • Experience with:
    • SIEM tools (Splunk, Sentinel, etc.)
    • Identity systems (AD, LDAP)

The base salary range for this role is $62,760 - $107,000. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including job-related skills, experience, internal equity and relevant education or training.
