Job Details:

Position Title: Senior Product Engineer, Microsoft
Status: Full-Time Support
Hours: 40 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Information Technology Services
Campus/Location: North Campus – must be comfortable working hybrid, a minimum of four (4) days on-site.
Payband: K

Salary Range: $47.13 - $54.48

Starting Salary: $47.13

Progression through the payband is in accordance with the increments in the payband as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the payband.

About the Senior Product Engineer - Microsoft Role:
Under the direction of the Technology Product Owner, the Senior Product Engineer, Microsoft is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable solutions across the Microsoft ecosystem, with a focus on the Power Platform and identity technologies. This includes building automations, applications, and integrations using Power Platform tools while supporting identity services built on Microsoft Entra and Entra External ID. The role focuses on enabling secure, reliable, and performant solutions that support Humber’s vision of a Digital Campus. The Senior Product Engineer will leverage Power Platform capabilities to deliver backend automations and user-facing applications, support platform users through technical expertise, and contribute to system enhancements and documentation. In close partnership with the Technology Product Owner, this role enables seamless and secure experiences across identity and integrated enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate, Power Apps, and related services.

  • Build and support backend automations and workflows to enable business processes and system integrations.

  • Develop user-facing applications using Power Apps and modern web technologies where appropriate.

  • Support and extend identity-related solutions leveraging Microsoft Entra and Entra External ID.

  • Design and implement integrations with enterprise systems using REST APIs, Microsoft connectors, and modern integration patterns.

  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable Power Platform and Microsoft-based solutions.

  • Support testing activities by developing test cases, test data, and participating in unit and integration testing.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize solutions, performing root cause analysis and ensuring system reliability.

  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation to support ongoing maintenance, knowledge transfer, and user enablement.

  • Stay current with Microsoft platform capabilities, Power Platform updates, and emerging development practices.

  • Partner with Technology Product Owners and technical leads to align on architecture, standards, and delivery across the portfolio.

  • Contribute to solution design and architectural decisions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and integration patterns.

  • Lead or contribute to the design of scalable solution patterns across the Microsoft ecosystem, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and integration strategies.

  • Work within a product management model, supporting Product Owners by ensuring backlog items are technically sound, well-defined, and aligned with architectural standards.

Education

    • A three-year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • Continued education in Information Technology or equivalent experience is required.

Experience/Skills

  • At least five years of hands-on experience in large, complex environments designing, building, operating, maintaining, and securing enterprise-class solutions.
  • Proven experience working with Microsoft Power Automate and its integrated ecosystem, with a strong understanding of automation capabilities, platform features, and best practices.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate, Power Apps, and related services for building workflows and applications.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Entra and Entra External ID, with an understanding of identity, authentication, and access management concepts.
  • Proficiency in developing integrations using REST APIs, Microsoft connectors, and modern integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with iPaaS solutions (e.g., MuleSoft) and enterprise integration architectures is considered an asset.
  • Experience with backend automation design and orchestration across multiple enterprise systems.
  • Proficiency in modern development technologies including JavaScript and web technologies (HTML5), with experience building user-facing applications.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools such as Azure DevOps Pipelines, with experience using version control systems (Git).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and experience deploying and supporting solutions in cloud-based environments.
  • Experience delivering enterprise applications and automation solutions in large, complex organizations.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, with experience operating within a product management model and contributing to backlog refinement and delivery through modern work management tools.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in low-code platforms, identity management, and enterprise application architecture.
  • Experience with change management practices, supporting multiple environments, system dependencies, and maintaining accurate technical. documentation .
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex system and integration issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders .
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Power Platform Developer, Azure, or Identity-related certifications) are considered an asset .
  • Understanding of higher education data landscapes is considered an asset.
