About the role

We are SLR Consulting (Americas), a 1500+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada, the United States, and LATAM. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustain ability. As our new Ecologist, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

Role
SLR Canada is looking for a full-time Ecologist to be based out of our Vancouver, BC office.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field work including environmental sampling and assessments: some local, and some remote requiring travel for up to two weeks at a time.
  • Participate in wildlife surveys, including bats, amphibians, ungulates, breeding birds, and raptors, as well as wildlife salvage operations such as amphibian stream and pond salvages.
  • Participate in species-at-risk surveys, habitat assessments, and environmental monitoring, under the guidance of senior staff members
  • Assist with desktop analysis, fieldwork, and technical report preparation.
  • Assist with permitting and environmental assessment activities as required.
  • Collaborate with project team members and contribute to multidisciplinary project deliverables.

Preferences will be given to candidates with knowledge to the following skillsets and experience:

  • Bird monitoring experience – acoustic and visual identification, surveying protocols.
  • Working knowledge of BC and federal legislation and policies.
  • Experience or familiarity with BC species at risk, Riparian Areas Regulation requirements, and Environmental Assessment Office procedures.

  • The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Membership (or eligible for membership) as a Biologist in Training (BIT) and working toward full RPBio status.
  • Familiarity with field sampling and assessment methods.
  • Knowledge of BC species and ecosystems.
  • Availability and flexibility to travel for fieldwork.
  • Wilderness/backcountry experience; comfortable working in a remote field environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel, managing large datasets, and conducting analyses using R or other statistical software.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in BC (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
