**TITLE:******UTILITY PERSON - 40 hours
**DEPARTMENT:******Facility Services
**REPORTS TO:******Supervisor, General Trades
SUMMARY:
Under general direction, the Utility Person will have duties relating to the deliveries, shipping receiving and records maintenance. Coordinates scheduled and unscheduled repair requests for fleet vehicles.
DUTIES:
- Responsible for loading and unloading freight and recording shortages, damaged goods and returns.
- Delivers equipment, supplies and furniture as scheduled.
- Relocates large items of equipment and furniture as scheduled.
- Establishes, maintains an inventory of materials, supplies and tools.
- Inspects and verifies incoming goods against purchase orders, invoices or other documentation using computer software.
- Performs a variety of manual tasks, some requiring specific skills and or expertise related to the repair, maintenance and alteration of buildings, grounds and furniture.
- Operates and services light duty equipment.
- Maintains contact with vendors on vehicle repair/maintenance.
- Adheres to WorkSafeBC health and safety regulations.
- Maintains fire extinguisher inventory
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Assists other Facility Services staff as directed by the supervisor.
- Performs other related or emergent duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS:
- Completion of Grade12 or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year related experience.
- A valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license.
- Competent in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this work, including pallet jack, forklift and power tailgate.
- Ability to operate a computer for the purpose of using software to receive and order goods, electronic mail, work order systems and word processing.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, WorkSafeBC regulations and traffic regulations.
- Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
- Ability to work in confined areas and at heights.
- Ability to perform the required manual tasks.
- Ability to maintain close attention to detail.
- Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contact with students, suppliers and other staff.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED (Utility Person)
- Pallet jack, forklift, delivery vehicle, computer, telephone, hand tools and other warehouse equipment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Sufficient vision to perform required duties.
- Fundamental ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade.
- Ability to work in confined areas and at heights.
- Physical strength required to perform required tasks.
