About the role
Join our Mission
Want to revolutionize antibody drug discovery? Let’s accomplish it together. Evolved Therapeutics is a next generation, ultra-high-throughput, function-first antibody generation company focused on discovering first- and best-in-class therapeutic antibodies with the goal of improving the lives of patients with life-interrupting disease. Leverage your expertise to help us accomplish this mission.
Scientist / Senior Scientist, Bioconjugation
A permanent, on-site role on a multidisciplinary team. You’ll design, execute, and characterize the bioconjugation reactions that turn our antibodies into antibody–payload conjugates, advancing lead conjugates from screening through multi-milligram scale.
Your primary responsibilities:
Bioconjugation Chemistry: Design & Execution
Design, execute, and optimize site-specific and stochastic bioconjugation reactions (e.g., maleimide–thiol, NHS-ester amine coupling, strain-promoted azide–alkyne “click” chemistry, enzymatic conjugation) to generate antibody–payload conjugates Develop, refine, and scale conjugation protocols to control payload/drug-to-antibody ratio (DAR), homogeneity, and stability across antibody–payload conjugates Plan and run reactions from screening through multi-milligram scale; maintain detailed electronic lab notebook records and reproducible SOPs
Analytical Characterization & QC
Characterize conjugates by HIC, SEC, RP-HPLC, and CE-SDS to confirm DAR, purity, aggregation, and identity Develop and execute assays for conjugate stability, payload release, and functional activity (binding/ELISA, cell-based potency) Troubleshoot reactions and analytical methods; interpret data and present structured conclusions to project teams
Process Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with protein sciences, biology, and analytical teams to advance lead conjugates from design through characterization Optimize reaction conditions, purification (desalting, IEX, SEC, TFF), and buffer/formulation chemistry to improve yield, reproducibility, and developability Contribute to platform development—new linker/payload chemistries, conjugation methods, and automation/high-throughput screening of conjugation conditions Serve as a bioconjugation technical lead and subject-matter expert; mentor junior scientists and set best practices, SOPs, and technical direction across programs
Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge and Expertise
PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with a focus in bioconjugation or protein chemistry, and a depth of relevant experience commensurate with the Scientist / Senior Scientist level, or equivalent education and industry experience Hands-on experience designing and executing bioconjugation reactions (antibody/protein conjugation, click chemistry, linker–payload coupling) and purifying the resulting conjugates Proficiency characterizing biomolecules and conjugates by HIC, SEC, RP-HPLC, and CE-SDS; able to independently interpret DAR, purity, and aggregation data Strong foundation in bioconjugation chemistry and reaction optimization, with working knowledge of protein handling, buffer/formulation chemistry, and clean technique Excellent organization, documentation (ELN), and communication; able to manage concurrent experiments and present results clearly in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Demonstrated ability to drive projects independently, set technical direction, and mentor junior scientists in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Additional Assets
Experience with antibody-oligo conjugates (AOC) or antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) development or other targeted-payload modalities Basic experience with the synthesis and characterization of linkers and reactive handles Conjugate characterization by LC-MS/HRMS (intact mass and subunit analysis) Site-specific conjugation expertise (engineered cysteines, unnatural amino acids, enzymatic tags such as sortase or transglutaminase, glycan remodeling) Familiarity with payload classes (oligonucleotides, cytotoxins, fluorophores, radiometal chelators) and linker chemistry design and/or selection High-throughput/automated conjugation screening and DAR optimization on liquid-handling platforms Programming/data skills (Python/R) for analytical data processing, reporting, or DOE-based reaction optimization
Salary Range: $95,000 to $150,000 CAD per annum
