About the role

Sub1313 Development a division of Canco Petroleum is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Draftsperson / Design Coordinator to support the planning, design, permitting, and construction of petroleum, commercial, retail, and car wash projects across Canada. 

This role combines technical drafting, project coordination, consultant management, and design support. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, consultants, municipalities, contractors, and clients to ensure projects progress efficiently from concept through construction. 

The ideal candidate is capable of producing drawings, coordinating consultants, managing project documentation, tracking approvals, and supporting multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES DRAFTING & DESIGN 

  • Prepare drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar software. 
  • Develop site plans, floor plans, elevations, details, and as-built drawings. 
  • Modify and update existing drawing packages. 
  • Coordinate drawing revisions throughout project development. 
  • Prepare and assist with rendering preparation and presentation materials. 
  • Maintain drawing standards and document control procedures. 
  • Support value engineering and design optimization initiatives.

 Design Coordination 

  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, petroleum consultants, environmental consultants, signage consultants, and municipal authorities. 
  • Review consultant drawings for completeness and coordination. 
  • Identify design conflicts and assist in resolving them before construction. 
  • Ensure consultants meet project schedules and deliverables. 
  • Track design milestones and approval timelines. 
  • Manage drawing, issuance and revision logs. 

PERMITTING & APPROVALS 

  • Assist with municipal development permit and building permit applications. 
  • Coordinate submissions to various authorities having jurisdiction. 
  • Track permit status and approval requirements. 
  • Maintain records of permit conditions and approvals. 
  • Follow up with municipalities, consultants, and regulatory agencies. 

PROJECT COORDINATION 

  • Support Project Managers and Construction Managers with project execution. 
  • Maintain project schedules and design deliverables. 
  • Assist in preparing scopes of work and consultant contracts. 
  • Coordinate site information, surveys, utility information, and existing conditions documentation. 
  • Participate in project meetings and maintain meeting minutes. 
  • Track action items and follow-up requirements. 

DOCUMENTATION MANAGEMENT 

  • Organize and maintain project files and documentation. 
  • Manage drawing registers and project databases. 
  • Ensure all project documents are current and properly distributed. 
  • Maintain consultant contact lists and project records. 
  • Support contract administration and change management processes. 

CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT 

  • Respond to RFIs and drawing clarification requests. 
  • Assist field teams with drawing interpretation and coordination. 
  • Update as-built drawings during construction. 
  • Coordinate site measurements and verification when required. 
  • Support project closeout documentation. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 

  • Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, Design Technology, Construction Management, or related field. 
  • Minimum 2–5 years of drafting, design coordination, or project coordination experience. 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit. 
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and documentation. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 

PREFERRED 

  • Experience with petroleum, retail, commercial, or car wash projects. 
  • Experience with Revit, SketchUp, Lumion, or similar software. 
  • Understanding of municipal permitting processes. 
  • Experience coordinating consultants and contractors. 
  • Knowledge of building codes and construction practices.
