Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

As part of our growing engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical design engineering tasks both in the traditional nuclear market and in new initiatives to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems. The successful candidate will be working within a multi-discipline engineering team mainly supporting the Engineering design team located at Kinectrics East office in Saint John, New Brunswick.

To deliver electrical engineering expertise to power generation utilities and other customers. The specific accountabilities of the position are as follows:

Perform conceptual and/or detailed design of instrumentation and control systems, including definition of system functional and performance requirements, definition of control logic and wiring arrangements, control parameters, setpoints, instrument ranges and environmental qualification and seismic qualification. Perform engineering change design and analysis following established Engineering Change Control procedures. Perform specification, sizing, and selection for various types of I&C components, and produce component related documentation including assessment documents, setpoint calculations, error analyses, technical specifications, etc. Perform condition assessments / prepare specifications, design changes, drawing markups for I&C system equipment such as control computers, PID controllers, Digital Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), signal transmitters, etc. Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements. Provide field support for design and design modifications, including provision of field engineering. Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution. Manage projects and act as design team lead where appropriate. Conduct technical assessments and emergent troubleshooting/engineering to support new build projects and existing operating units. Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects. Stay current with developments within their field of expertise. Assist with proposals, client presentations, and technical reports. Travel/visits to client sites as required.

What You Need To Succeed

Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in I&C Engineering (or relevant Engineering Technology Diploma as there is potential for Professional Technologists to perform this work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer) Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in I&C design engineering Good knowledge of CANDU design and/or PWRs, PHWRs, and BWRs Experience with projects related to heavy industry, nuclear refurbishment is preferred Proven track record in design and analysis in industrial instrumentation and control, including application to nuclear plants Strong knowledge of control system design, analysis and equipment including control computers, PID controllers, Digital Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), advanced control theory etc. Experience in performing condition assessments of I&C equipment In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards, as applied to nuclear and conventional plants. Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams. Knowledge of the life cycle management of electrical equipment. Familiarity with rigorous engineering change control processes and application of QA programs Good working knowledge of basic generation plant design/operation related to Nuclear power plants, skid-based designs, or international power projects. Experience with Small Modular Reactor or Advance Reactor designs is an asset. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality. Excellent problem-solving skills. Experience in leading technical projects to successful conclusions. Candidates are expected to have or to pursue attainment of the P.Eng. designation (or P. Tech if applicable). Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of customers. Ability to contribute to complex and/or multi-discipline projects. OPG/Bruce Power/NB Power Security Clearance is an asset.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
