About the role

We are SLR Consulting (Canada), a 800+ team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals across 20+ office locations in Canada. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. As our new Air Quality Junior Scientist , you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal. The successful applicants for this position will provide technical support on air quality and environmental engineering projects, including assistance with data analysis, technical reporting, and field work. Success in this role will depend on your ability to perform in a fast-paced, demanding environment that requires a high level of attention to detail.

Role

As our new Air Quality Technician, you will play an important role with our current team working on working on projects across Alberta.

Working closely with other team members, you’ll contribute to air quality and meteorological sampling, environmental permitting reports, emissions monitoring, and dispersion modelling. You’ll also prepare field notes and environmental summary reports for work conducted across Alberta.

Responsibilities:

  • Installing, operating, and calibrating air monitoring equipment (e.g., gas analyzers, particulate samplers).
  • Data Collection & Management: Gathering and validating air quality data from monitoring stations or field samples.
  • Reporting: Assisting with technical reports, emission inventories, and compliance documentation.
  • Field Assessment: Conducting ambient air monitoring in industrial areas, and / or different remote sites.
  • Technical Support: Troubleshooting monitoring instruments and assisting senior staff with dispersion modeling (e.g., AERMOD, CALPUFF).

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

  • Education: Diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Chemistry, or Atmospheric Science.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of air quality regulations (e.g., EPA, Canada provincial standards) and experience with data analysis software.
  • Field Skills: Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to report writing ability, and the ability to work independently or in a team.
