Overview

The PLC support technician is responsible for wiring, testing and diagnosing PLCs of the iSMART hardware/equipment remotely. They will also be expected to provide field service support in the installation of panels by working on customer sites or providing remote support. Practical field work experience is essential to gaining an understanding of our hardware and equipment. In addition, they will be receiving incoming support requests and reviewing internal requests to proactively troubleshoot equipment issues and report to the Hardware Engineer.

The medium-term plan for the PLC technician is primarily to provide remote/over-the-phone support to contractors and technicians in the field. Effective communication is integral to providing technical support over the phone.

Location: The PLC technician works from the office location; however, the role will include some off-hours on-call support outside of regular office hours.

Work Hours: 8 am – 4:30 pm

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000

Bonus: This position is eligible to receive an incentive award targeted at 5% of the base salary.

Responsibilities

  • Improving, Testing, and troubleshooting of control solutions for waste equipment and shop machinery.

  • Provide field service support, ensuring seamless operation and swift issue resolution.

  • Offer troubleshooting support over the phone for technical issues.

  • Efficiently manage and close support tickets, maintaining a high level of client satisfaction.

  • Contribute to enhancing equipment performance, safety, and sustainability.

  • Position the company as an industry leader in technological innovation and operational excellence within the field of waste equipment and shop machinery.

  • Providing effective and efficient remote troubleshooting expertise on all automated machines using electrical schematics and PLC logic

  • Receive incoming calls from Field Technicians and provide support for iSmart system installations, testing, and repairs.

  • Visit customer sites to provide support with panel installation and wiring.

  • Troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and control-related problems identified in the field through remote connection and diagnostics.

  • Troubleshoot and implement software changes to PLC’s

  • Support new panel builds, perform panel installations, and PLC modifications.

  • Commission control panels to ensure proper functionality and performance.

  • Manage inventory related to equipment and components.

  • Create purchase orders for required materials and supplies

  • Perform quality assurance (QA) testing on newly developed equipment and systems.

  • Conduct research and development activities for automation equipment.

  • Install and test all electrical components, including safety devices, in compliance with safety standards.

  • Taking responsibility, pride, and ownership of his work.

  • AutoCAD is an asset.

  • Raspberry and Arduino programing is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e. proximity switches, pressure transducers, etc.)

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency in achieving results.

  • Effective communication of technical details with Field Technicians & Contractors

  • Attention to detail and accuracy of documentation including tickets, inspection forms and time reporting paperwork.

  • A degree/diploma in electrical controls

  • Minimum of (two) 2 years’ experience troubleshooting and diagnosing PLC’s.

  • Experience with Allen Bradley (RSlogix500) & Schneider PLC’s

  • Capable to read, understand & edit electrical, process & instrumentation schematics.

  • Practical experience with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment

  • Valid “G” Driver's License

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both oral and written

  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and without supervision.

  • Willing to work overtime as per job requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and support multiple demands.
