About the role
Junior Electrical Engineer (Hardware Design) Tangent Design Engineering, Calgary, Alberta Full-time $75,000 to $95,000, APEGA P.Eng.-eligible (E.I.T. / Member-in-Training)
Learn to build hardware that has to perform. At Tangent, we develop electrical hardware for clients in regulated industries: medical devices, hazardous locations, defence, aerospace, and industrial systems. We take designs through validation, qualification testing, and certification, backed by a quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016. That means the work is rigorous, the documentation matters, and the things we ship end up in the field. We are looking for a junior electrical engineer early in their career who already has some real design experience and wants to grow fast inside a disciplined, mentored environment. You will work alongside senior engineers, take on increasing ownership as you prove yourself, and learn what it takes to bring hardware from concept to certified product.
What you will do Contribute to PCBA design and development in Altium or equivalent, with support and review from senior engineers. Build hands-on experience across analog, digital, and mixed-signal design as you take on a widening range of work. Use Spice-based simulation tools (LTSpice, TINA-TI, or similar) to model and validate circuits before fabrication. Support bring-up, test, and debug of prototypes and production hardware. Help produce the documentation and test records that carry designs through certification in regulated environments. Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, and project teams to deliver complete solutions.
What we expect on your resume Demonstrated design experience. Real PCBA or circuit design work you can point to, whether from industry, co-op, capstone, or personal projects, with an explanation of what you built and what you learned. One to three years of experience. Early-career engineers with a clear appetite to take on more, including strong recent graduates with substantive hands-on design work. Familiarity with regulated markets. Some understanding of how standards, documentation, and certification shape hardware design, even if your direct exposure is limited so far. Simulation fundamentals. Working knowledge of Spice-based tools and a habit of validating before building. Credentials. Eligible to register as an E.I.T. or Member-in-Training with APEGA, on a path toward your P.Eng. Communication. An ability to write clearly and explain your work, with examples such as reports, design notes, or technical presentations.
What this role rewards We invest in junior engineers and give real responsibility as it is earned. The people who thrive here early tend to share a few traits: Accountability. You follow through on what you take on, ask for help when you need it, and flag problems early rather than late. Curiosity. You want to understand how things work, you learn quickly from what does not, and you are not afraid to ask the next question. Coachability. You welcome feedback and review, and you put it to use. Growing fast here means being open about what you do not know yet. You will see these themes again in our interview process, which is a conversation about how you think and how you work, not a quiz.
