The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is currently recruiting qualified and motivated individuals to join the Transportation and Operations Branch as Seasonal Operators.

Duties:

This position supports road and highway work by operating equipment and helping keep work sites safe as part of a crew.

  • Operate trucks, machines, and tools

  • Set up and remove work sites and traffic control

  • Direct traffic around work areas

  • Load and apply materials such as paint and asphalt

  • Assist with asphalt plant operations

  • Inspect and maintain equipment

  • Follow safety rules and supervisor instructions

  • Work outdoors in all weather and travel to job sites

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience operating light and/or heavy-duty equipment in a construction or highway maintenance work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of occupational safety, health, and risk management.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Experience operating hand or power tools.
  • Ability to maintain and service equipment.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of safe work practices and the ability to work safely in compliance with established policies and procedures.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must be able to provide a valid Class 5 and/or Class 3 Driver’s Licence, as required. Please specify which class you currently hold

  • Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions such as heat, cold, or dust

  • Must be able to work extended hours in the summer, including overtime on weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays, as needed

  • Must be able to work with paints, solvents, and/or chemicals

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 70 lbs, and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Must be able to travel extensively throughout the province

  • Must be able to stay away from home for several nights at a time
