Engineering Lead - Canada
About the role
Job Description
Who are we? Global Maritime is a leading marine, offshore, and engineering consultancy that offers intellectually stimulating work within a deeply collaborative culture and with uniquely supportive leadership. This environment creates a culture where talented professionals truly thrive. At the heart of what we do are extraordinary challenges. We directly contribute to unique, often world-first projects on the global stage. We are driven by a vibrant culture of innovation, including dedicated R&D, advanced in-house software, and the freedom to develop your own ideas. This rapid exposure across the entire spectrum of marine, offshore, and engineering consultancy accelerates your expertise like nowhere else.
Welcoming you to our team: You will be joining our Engineering / Engineering and Software Business Stream team based in Canada, reporting to the E&S BSD. This team plays an integral role in delivering engineering consulting, analysis, and design services across a broad spectrum of marine and offshore projects. From early-stage concept development to execution and technical review, the team supports operations of all sizes with high-quality, reliable engineering expertise.
The role would suit a practical and commercially aware engineering leader who thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment and is motivated to build and lead a high-performing Canadian engineering team while strengthening relationships with both internal and external clients. What does success look like in this position?
In this role, success means strategically leading and managing the Canadian Engineering function while adapting approach and priorities to market demands and technical developments. You will be confidently guiding a capable, motivated and multi-disciplinary team, ensuring workloads are balanced, resources are utilised effectively, and engineering services are delivered consistently to a high standard and in line with business management systems. You will be instrumental in monitoring business performance, identifying and mitigating commercial and technical risks, and contributing to accurate forecasting and budgeting. Your ability to work closely with team members, business stream leaders and global offices to resolve technical challenges, allocate resources and manage project risks will be key to maintaining smooth and high-quality delivery.
Success also means playing an active role in business development by identifying opportunities, shaping proposals, and supporting the growth of Engineering Services in Canada. You will continuously look for ways to strengthen client relationships, cross-sell services, and expand the team’s impact across both local and global projects. Ultimately, you will be a driving force in ensuring the growth, capability and long-term success of the Engineering team in Canada.
How you make an impact: As our Canada Engineering Lead you will make a significant impact by providing agile commercial leadership that considers the technical complexities of our Engineering services, championing knowledge sharing, and promoting standardization and consistency across our global team. You will monitor business stream performance, proactively identifying and mitigating potential commercial and market risks, and collaborate closely with team members to address technical challenges, resource constraints, and project risks to ensure smooth project execution.
Your contributions will be vital to accurate business stream forecasting and budgeting activities, and you will actively manage your team, driving progress across engineering delivery, capability development, and recruitment initiatives. Identifying and pursuing new business development opportunities will form a key part of your role, working closely with the BD function and facilitating cross-selling opportunities across the wider Global Maritime service portfolio.
Furthermore, you will contribute to the development and effective application of the group Business Management System, ensuring our service offering remains competitive and aligned with market needs. You will also maintain and develop strategic relationships with key clients and stakeholders, strengthening the company’s position in the Canadian market and supporting global project delivery through strong collaboration.
Your starting point when you join: • Master of Engineering or Science in structural engineering, naval architecture or other relevant engineering subject, or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent professional experience • Minimum 10+ years of relevant industry experience within marine engineering, offshore structures, marine operations, or related consultancy services • Proven experience in project management from opportunity identification through to successful delivery • Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing multi-disciplinary engineering teams • Strong commercial awareness with a focus on achieving results and meeting agreed targets and KPI’s • Advanced user of engineering software in your area of expertise, with awareness of broader engineering tools and their limitations • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders • Proven ability to align team objectives with wider company strategy and contribute to business growth • To act within the powers of your role, leading by example and following GM compliance, ethics and company values
