Your Opportunity One Permanent Full Time Position Capital Power is seeking a skilled professional who is passionate about working with complex electrical and control systems in a dynamic power generation environment. In this role, you'll combine hands-on electrical maintenance, advanced instrumentation and controls, outage execution, and plant modernization projects while contributing directly to the reliability and performance of a world-class generating facility. You will contribute to our team by: Maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems across all voltage levels, including: High Voltage (HV): Switchyard equipment (breakers, disconnects, bussing, grounding systems) Step-up transformers and grid interconnection systems Protective relaying systems and coordination Medium Voltage (MV): 4 kV–15 kV switchgear, feeders, and distribution systems Large motors, feeders, and auxiliary systems Unit auxiliary transformers and motor control centers Low Voltage (LV): MCCs, panelboards, lighting, and control power systems Motor control circuits, HVAC, and balance-of-plant equipment UPS systems, battery systems, and DC distribution Performing inspection, testing, and maintenance of: Protective relays (SEL, GE, ABB, etc.) Breakers, switchgear, and transformers Station batteries, chargers, and emergency power systems Safely executing and supporting electrical switching, clearances, and isolations, including: Verifying absence of voltage and grounding for safe work conditions Supporting plant reliability and grid performance, including troubleshooting electrical issues impacting generation output Controls: Electrical & Instrumentation Providing support for Instrumentation & Control systems, including: Calibration and troubleshooting of transmitters (pressure, flow, temperature, level) Maintenance of control valves, analyzers, and CEMS equipment Assisting with DCS (ABB), GE MKVIe Turbine Controls, Mitsubishi Netmation and PLC-based control systems Executing preventive and corrective maintenance using Maximo, ensuring accurate documentation and work quality Reading and interpreting electrical one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs Supporting planned outages, including contractor coordination, oversight, and QA/QC Ensuring compliance with arc flash, and electrical safety requirements Participating in root cause analysis (RCA) and implementing corrective actions for electrical and control system failures Supporting plant upgrades and modernization projects, including relay replacements, electrical distribution improvements, and DCS upgrades What you will bring to the role: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required Journeyman Electrician (with Red Seal) Journeyman Instrumentation Technician (with Red Seal) Engineering Technology in either Electrical or Instrumentation disciplines Additional training in high-voltage systems, protective relaying, or instrumentation is highly desirable Experience and Skills: 5+ years of experience in industrial electrical and instrumentation maintenance, preferably in power generation or heavy industry Demonstrated hands-on experience across: High Voltage (typically up to 230 kV switchyard systems), Medium Voltage distribution (4 kV–15 kV systems), and Low Voltage power and control systems Experience with electric heat trace systems, including installation support, inspection, troubleshooting, continuity and insulation-resistance testing, controller/thermostat checks, and freeze-protection applications in industrial facilities Experience with: Protective relays and electrical protection schemes, Switchgear, transformers, and motor control systems and Grid interconnection equipment and practices. Working knowledge of: Electrical system coordination and fault protection, VFDs, motor starting methods, and auxiliary systems, and Industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.) Familiarity with: DCS platforms (ABB preferred), PLCs, CEMS and environmental monitoring instrumentation Technical Skills: Strong troubleshooting capability across LV and MV systems Ability to safely perform energized system awareness and de-energized verification practices Advanced understanding of arc flash, grounding, and electrical hazard mitigation Proficient with CMMS systems (Maximo) and standard Microsoft tools Strong communication and teamwork skills in a multi-disciplined team environment High level of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail Working Conditions: Heavy industrial facility designated as a safety-sensitive environment Regular work in electrical rooms, MCC buildings, and outdoor environments Requires use of arc flash PPE and adherence to electrical safety procedures Physical requirements include walking, climbing, lifting, and working at heights Participation in callouts, overtime, and outage support is required Additional Details: Union: IBEW1007 Hourly Rate: 64.23 per hour As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug & alcohol test is required, subject to applicable law. Clearance of a pre-employment medical will also be required. This role will be located at the Genesee Generating Station which is 80 kilometers southwest of Edmonton - you must provide your own transportation. A site premium is provided.
