The Water & Wastewater Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of potable water and wastewater treatment systems. The role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water and the environmentally responsible treatment and disposal of wastewater, in full compliance with provincial regulations and standards. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health, environmental sustainability, and regulatory compliance while supporting reliable water and wastewater services for clients.

Duties:

The incumbent will perform routine monitoring, sampling, testing, and documentation to verify system performance and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining treatment plant equipment, completing preventative and corrective maintenance, responding to equipment or process issues, and maintaining accurate operational records. The role requires following established safety, environmental, and operational procedures while working independently and collaborating with internal teams, clients, and external service providers as needed.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience in water and wastewater treatment operations

  • Experience conducting wastewater testing and evaluation

  • Experience operating mechanical equipment used in water and wastewater treatment plants and operating and maintaining safety equipment

  • Knowledge of potable water treatment, distribution, wastewater treatment, and collection processes

  • Ability to perform laboratory testing and quality control procedures

  • Demonstrated experience using math in an operational or technical environment

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Strong written communication skills to communication clearly and effectively

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

  • Strong analytical skills

Desired:

  • Understanding of potable water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, plant operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of provincial regulations

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must have a Manitoba Water treatment level 2

  • Must have a Manitoba Wastewater treatment level 1

  • Must have a Manitoba Wastewater collection level 1

  • Must have a Manitoba Water distribution level 1

  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent from another jurisdiction

  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory enhanced security screening level 2

  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
