About the Role

The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is an integral member of the project team responsible for contributing to a variety of infrastructure projects of varying size and complexity. The EIT will be responsible for contributing to the electrical, instrumentation, and control aspects of various projects under the supervision of an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer.

The role will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, project managers, drafters, clients and the different departments in their organizations, and provide an understanding of the processes working in the utilities and oil & gas industries.

EMB utilizes a hybrid work system, with the expectation that the EIT will work in the office 2-3 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Liaising with external clients, contractors, and suppliers to define project requirements, scope, and outcomes
  • Update and create electrical & instrumentation drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, hazardous area classification, single line diagrams, and layouts).
  • Use software tools such as AutoCAD, and Bluebeam for drawing updates.
  • Create technical documents such as cable schedules, load lists, and instrument lists.
  • Review technical documents for equipment to ensure compliance with design standards.
  • Liaise with internal teams and track progress and quality of work
  • Assist in writing engineering reports
  • Preparing design sketches and working with drafters to develop drawings
  • Scanning and copying documents
  • Coordinate supplies, logistics, etc.
  • Creating spreadsheets for budgeting, engineering calculations, etc.
  • Using engineering principles to complete engineering calculations/designs
  • Occasional project site visits
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid BC driver’s license (or other provincial equivalent)
  • Engineering degree with discipline in Electrical, Mechatronics, or equivalent
  • Ability to work in Canada, either under Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or work permit.
  • Good organizational skills, able to handle multi-tasking on multiple projects and manage own time
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Competent communication skills
  • Experience or knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Openness to learning new skills
  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of: 
    • Electrical power and distribution systems.
    • Instrumentation and control fundamentals.
    • Engineering drawings (P&IDs, schematics, loop diagrams)

SALARY RANGE

The annual salary range for the EIT is $67,000 to $90,000 CAD. 

Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training.
