About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

Mount Milligan is seeking a Mine Engineer, Mine Waste Planning, to play an integral role in coordinating and reporting daily construction activities on the dam. Reporting to Technical Services Superintendent, the Mine Engineer, Mine Waste Planning, is responsible for planning the dispersal of waste material and supporting the planning for the construction of the TSF.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and presenting weekly dam construction plan.
  • Following KP’s construction design and specifications regarding the construction activities on the dam that includes Upstream construction, Downstream Construction, Core construction and F&T placement.
  • Coordinating with various teams regarding daily activities and week plans. (mine ops, KP, Terracon, Dewatering and Mill)
  • Coordinating with Short range planner regarding waste material placement and discussing the priorities regarding material requirements on the dam in short horizon.
  • Preparing requested design for Mine ops for construction of Upstream surface, Downstream surface, core surface, ramps and Blisters following Kp’s design dam design solids and MTM SOPs.
  • Overlooking on the Terracon’s activities on site and in the lab during construction season. Checking their daily report and assisting with the required warehouse supplies for lab and site during construction season.
  • Keeping Terracon and Kp personals informed regarding material changes, priorities, work procedures and safety.
  • Attending Kp’s Bi-weekly meetings for discussing construction progress and action items.
  • Providing support to Senior team members and management regarding budgeting and long-term planning.
  • Attending Terracon monthly meetings for discussing progress on dam construction for the season and expectations.
  • Assisting with seepage collection process on every 15th and 30th of the month and collecting flow meter readings as per request.

About You

  • B.Sc. Engineering in Mining or relevant equivalent.
  • Able to register as an EIT with Engineers & Geoscientists BC.
  • Mine design software experience, such as MineSite an asset.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation.
  • Exposure to project coordination and ability to make sound project decisions.
  • Effective leadership to build a strong employee culture.
  • Good work ethic and a strong attitude towards safety are essential requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on/14 day off rotation
  • Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
  • PPE always required.
  • Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
  • Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
