NATURE AND SCOPE:
Reporting to the Drafting Lead, this position is responsible for developing and maintaining site record drawings, project drawings, and graphics. The drafting technician validates that produced drawings meet government and industry standards and that the drawings are properly stored within the North Warning System (NWS) Project storage system.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains Site Record drawings based on approved mark-ups from maintenance work or inspections using AutoCAD and MS Excel.
- Creates new Engineering Project drawings from engineering design sketches and mark-ups of Site Record drawings.
- Revises Site Record drawings as engineering projects are implemented, involving research, creating drawings from project file redlines.
- Meets with engineers and technicians and discusses the components that are needed to produce engineering drawings.
- Ensures all drawings and documents are created and maintained to the Department of National Defense standards for Engineering drawings and practices, including publication through the Technical Document Amendment Notice process as applicable.
- Organizes and maintains filing system of digital drawings, including coordination with design staff for production of sealed engineering drawings and NWS Library for release of drawing revisions.
- Scans printed archival or as-built drawings as change control records.
- Produces engineering drawing packages for project implementation.
- Support of configuration management.
- Produces printed and electronic packages for stakeholder.
- Generates and maintains documentation in accordance with the DND and Controlled Goods Program.
- Performs other duties/projects as assigned, to support the overall program and mission, and other initiatives of Nasittuq.
EDUCATION:
- Degree or diploma in a related engineering or technology field, or equivalent work experience.
CERTIFICATE(S) / LICENSE(S):
- None required. Certification in Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Microsoft Excel (Intermediate/Advanced) considered an asset.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of one (1) year of developing or maintaining engineering drawings.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience with the AutoCAD application.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.
- Experience with multiple engineering disciplines: Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, COMPETENCIES:
- Requires knowledge of industry and/or government drawing standards.
- Conventional knowledge of design principles and technical document development.
- Well organized, solid written and verbal communications, full working knowledge of MS Office Software applications, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent oral/written communications with the ability to present and explain technical information to both life cycle and engineering teams.
- Excellent teamwork skills, and the ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Ability to work and contribute well independently and within a team environment.
- Effective analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with customer service orientation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with field survey data collection, processing, and interpretation considered an asset.
