We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Scientist/Biologist specializing in Natural Sciences, Heritage, and Impact Assessments. The successful candidate will bring expertise in one or more of the following areas: species at risk, avian biology, wetlands, terrestrial ecology, or aquatic biology, and will join our diverse, multidisciplinary Environmental Sciences team. Your Key Responsibilities: Provide consulting services in the capacity of a Scientist/Biologist related to the areas of expertise provided above including conducting field surveys and report preparation; Support our clients with their Federal, Provincial and Municipal environmental legislation and policy requirements; Collaboration with other environmental team members and project managers from our various other engineering departments; Provide input related to growth opportunities, build and/or support client relationships; Lead preparation of proposal submissions, including development of project scope, schedule, and budget, as appropriate; Potential for travel throughout Ontario, Nunavut, Canada, and international locations and Uphold CBCL’s safety culture and adhere to company safety protocols and programs and applicable health and safety regulations. Maintain compliance with specific client, and site-specific health and safety protocols and programs, as required. Your Capabilities and Credentials: A Bachelor’s in Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Botany, or other Environmental/Applied Science or technical diploma; Minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental consulting or relevant environmental industry, including prior field experience such as bird surveys, wetland delineation and functional assessments, stream and culvert assessments, vegetation surveys, aquatic invertebrate collection and identification; Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills; Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, problem solving, and decision-making capabilities; Eligible to obtain security requirements for contracting with the Government of Canada; and Applicant must have a valid Class G driver’s license. What will make you stand out: Master’s degree in biology, Ecology, Zoology, Botany, or other Environmental/Applied Science; Previous experience with professional service consulting industry (such as engineering, sciences or construction) would be an asset; Experience addressing the requirements of Federal, Provincial and Municipal environmental legislation and policy; particularly as it pertains to permitting and Environmental Impact Assessments, or Provincial Policy statements; Experience with Ontario Class Environmental Assessments; Biological Training and certifications, such as: Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES) Ecological Land Classification (ELC) Butternut Health Assessment Experience Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol (OSAP) Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network (OBBN) Electro-fishing certification Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) Previous project or proposal management skills (prioritizing, scheduling, follow up, etc.) would be an asset.
