Role Description The Utility Arborist is a full-time, on-site role based in Ontario, Canada, with openings throught the province. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining vegetation around utility infrastructure to ensure public safety and reliable power service. Day-to-day tasks include identifying and assessing trees and vegetation that may interfere with power lines, performing pruning and removal using industry-approved techniques, and operating chainsaws, chippers, and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The Utility Arborist will follow utility and company specifications, complete work orders and job documentation, and communicate with crew members and clients regarding work plans and site conditions. The role also involves adhering to all provincial safety regulations, participating in tailgate meetings and ongoing training, and supporting a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and teamwork.
Qualifications Strong technical skills in tree identification, pruning, and removal, with an understanding of vegetation management around utility lines. Ability to safely operate arborist tools and equipment such as chainsaws, pole saws, brush chippers, and aerial devices. Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including climbing, lifting, and working at heights. Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow instructions and collaborate with crew members and supervisors. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; commercial driver’s license or air brake endorsement is an asset. Certified Utility Arborist or equivalent provincial certification is preferred; willingness to pursue certification and ongoing training is beneficial. Previous experience in arboriculture, forestry, landscaping, or utility vegetation management is an advantage.
