About the role

Platform Lead, Full Stack Developer at melyn Location: Remote Type: Full-time

About melyn melyn is a purpose-built platform supporting First Nations communities across Canada. We help Nations manage housing, infrastructure, governance, and economic development through a single, integrated system, empowering them to secure funding, lead projects, and drive sustainable growth. We're actively partnering with new Nations every week across every province and territory, and our team is growing to match.

We're not a traditional SaaS tool. We're Service-as-a-Software. We deliver outcomes, not seats. And we build everything in alignment with OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, Possession), the First Nations principles that govern how Indigenous data is collected, stored, used, and protected. OCAP is not a checkbox here. It is an architectural constraint that shapes every decision, from where data lives to who can access it.

The Role As Platform Lead, Full Stack Developer, you will own meaningful parts of the product from database to UI, and you will set the technical bar for everything that ships. You will design and build the systems that First Nations communities rely on daily, from scalable APIs and AI-powered tools to responsive, accessible frontends. You will architect for OCAP from the ground up, lead by example in code review, and make the calls that separate a demo from production-grade infrastructure a Council can rely on tomorrow.

This role suits an intrapreneurial engineer. Someone who treats their corner of the platform like a company within the company, identifies problems before they are assigned, makes architectural calls without waiting for permission, and owns the outcome of every decision they ship. We are a small, fast-moving team. The people who succeed here operate with the autonomy, urgency, and accountability of a founder, even when the title says engineer.

This is a fully remote, high-impact role on a mission-driven team where your work directly shapes outcomes for the communities we serve.

What You'll Do Design and build scalable APIs, data models, and backend services using Node.js, Python, or Go. Develop responsive, accessible frontends with React and Next.js. Architect and manage AWS infrastructure including EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, CloudFormation, SageMaker, and Bedrock. Integrate LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, and vector search capabilities into production systems. Deploy and optimize local and self-hosted LLMs for privacy-sensitive workloads and on-premise use cases where OCAP compliance requires it. Own CI/CD pipelines, containerization with Docker and Kubernetes, and DevOps workflows. Set technical direction, raise the bar in code review, and mentor the engineers who join after you. Collaborate asynchronously with a distributed, cross-functional team to ship features that solve real problems for real communities.

What You Bring 5+ years of full-stack development experience in production environments. 3+ years working with AWS services, including hands-on experience with SageMaker and Bedrock. Strong backend skills in Python, Node.js, or Go. Frontend proficiency with React or Vue.js. Hands-on experience building or integrating RAG/AI systems and LLMs, including local and self-hosted models. Solid understanding of PostgreSQL and vector databases. Comfort with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tooling. Demonstrated technical leadership across architecture, code review, and team mentorship. A genuine respect for Indigenous data sovereignty and a willingness to architect within OCAP principles from day one.

Nice to Have Experience with Next.js, FastAPI, or serverless architectures on AWS. Familiarity with pgvector, Supabase, or Firebase. Experience with local LLM frameworks such as Ollama, vLLM, or llama.cpp. Document generation experience (PDF/Word). Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards. Prior work under OCAP or other Indigenous data governance frameworks. Background working with non-profit organizations or Indigenous communities.

Why melyn Competitive salary. Fully remote and flexible, work where and how you're most productive. Direct collaboration with leadership, with no layers of bureaucracy. The chance to build technology that creates lasting, meaningful impact for First Nations communities across Canada. An early seat at a Service-as-a-Software company in a category that is just being defined.

How to Apply Submit your resume along with links to relevant work, repositories, or projects you have led. We are particularly interested in candidates who can speak to architectural decisions they have made, systems they have scaled, and outcomes they have delivered.

melyn is a Nation-aligned, Indigenous-focused technology company. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous engineers and welcome applicants from every background who share our mission.
