Summary

Under direction of the Production Manager the successful candidate will manufacture work holding solutions, tools and precision optomechanical systems as required for the production of precision optics and systems. Assist in the proper upkeep and repair of internal equipment as required. To assist in the retrofit of existing optical manufacturing equipment and the building of new optical equipment.

Critical Skills and Knowledge:

? Conventional lathe skills. Ability to machine complex turned parts too tight tolerances is a critical requirement

? Use of other conventional and CNC machine tools such as: Milling machine, CNC milling machine, Surface grinder, bandsaw, tile saw, drill press etc.

? Strong core math skills: Ability to perform trigonometric, geometric and sag calculations

? Correctly interpret engineering drawings ie, ISO, ANSI

? Use of precision metrology equipment such as: Micrometer, optical comparator, variance indicator, calipers. Knowledge of interferometer and optical measurement tools

? Knowledge of optical tolerances and specifications ie, MIL-Spec, ISO and optical materials such as glass/crystal substrates

? Knowledge/familiarity with CAD/CAM solutions. Solid Edge and Mastercam an asset

? Strong language and communication skills

Responsibilities:

? Qualify optical and mechanical components for compliance with drawing tolerances and shop standards

? Recognize tooling and material requirements for job

? Maintain machine tools and equipment and request inspection or servicing when required. Includes keeping machine and chip trays clear of swarf, oiling when required, monitoring auto oilers and coolant etc.

? Keep tools and tooling in good order. Clean and return when not in use

? Keep an organized and clean working environment including general housekeeping: Regular sweep, mop and tidy

? Always work in a safe manner, mindful of your co-workers. Includes wearing appropriate PPE at all times

? Work well within a strong team environment. Assist co-workers and freely exchange thoughts and ideas in order to promote learning and improvement of the individual and the product.

Education and Experience:

? Minimum - Ontario Grade 12 education, 2 year post secondary machining course preferred.

? Minimum two (2) years on job training with a recognized machine shop or optical manufacturer.
