Job Description

Accountabilities:

Advocates for the Mission, Vision and Values of the Osler organization. Performs all front-line technical functions, operation and maintenance protocols, quality assurance procedures; monitors for compliance Designate for Charge Tech / supervisor - Pathology; resource for front-line staff Collaborates with peers, direct supervisors, professional leader and quality; using the organizational reporting structure to address conflict and develop solutions prior to escalation Key operator on equipment Participates in the development and review of technical procedures Maintains strong working knowledge of current technical methodologies, performance standards and evidence-based practice Actively involved in the inventory management process; orders product, ensures stock rotation, identifies and reports non-conformances (e.g. unacceptable, expired or discarded products) Technical resource for staff; monitors for compliance to policies and procedures Monitors and reallocates resources to meet performance expectations and operational needs Participates in process validations and qualification protocols for laboratory equipment and supplies Coordinates technical and safety training for staff; ensures hazardous tasks lists are current and communicated Provides input to staff performance appraisals Enters non-captured service and non-service recipient workload units Manages workload effectively and efficiently; identifies, reports and solves problems, meets deadlines and prioritizes Follows departmental policies, processes and procedures in accordance with established regulatory and accreditation standards Participates in the investigation, corrective action and follow-up for all non-conformances; discordant results, complaints, employee incident reports Attend meetings and delivers departmental huddles as required Accountable for meeting deadlines when completing action items, skills assessments and other technical projects Intervenes and diffuses conflict situations amongst staff; notifies Charge Techs as required Maintains privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy legislation and organizational policies; reports breaches Demonstrates professional behaviour and adherence to the Osler policies Perform Morgue census and checks following Care of the Deceased Policy, reporting to Clinical Lab Manager of Pathology

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, or relevant medical laboratory sciences education as deemed acceptable in the Laboratory and Specimen Collection. Centre Licensing Act Leadership courses an asset Minimum of three (3) years relevant medical laboratory working experience; or Continuing education combined with related working experience will be considered Supervisory and/or leadership experience is an asset MLPAO Certification or CSMLS certification and membership Consistently demonstrates the Osler values in daily practice Effective time management and organizational abilities Effective interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated critical thinking, troubleshooting and problem solving skills Ability to engage and lead the team when necessary and work in a team environment; fosters a

culture of teamwork Proficient computer skills Excellent attendance, punctuality and work ethic Demonstrated commitment to professional development of self and other staff Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Services, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration Ability to work and travel between all Osler sites if required

Additional Information

Hours: Currently days/evenings including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary:

Minimum: $33.15 per hour

Maximum: $39.47 per hour
