JOB DESCRIPTIONIrving Shipbuilding is looking for Welder, Apprentices in Halifax, NSRESPONSIBILITIESPhysical effort and work conditions:Candidates will be required to work at heights from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces, inclement weather and support extended hours and overtime as business needs dictate. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors. You will frequently handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to fifty (50lbs) pounds. Occasionally, you may be required to lift and carry items that weigh over fifty (50lbs) poundsKey Responsibilities:Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specificationsWork in a construction, maintenance/repair, new fabrication environmentPerform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) in all positionsPerform Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) in all positionsSelect the proper weld filler materialOperate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment and semi-automatic flame-cutting equipmentOperate air arc cutting equipment (carbon arc cutting)Set-up Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) equipment for weldingLift, move, or position equipment at work sitesWork in a shipbuilding and repair, steel industry environmentQUALIFICATIONSCompletion of secondary school or high school; andCompletion of vocational, technical and/or equivalent training or 5 + years of related experienceSuccessful applicants shall be expected to demonstrate that they have suitable shipyard welding skills by passing welding skills assessments.Welding trade certification or equivalent is preferredA pre-employment physical is requiredAll successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).ABOUT USFounded in 1882, J.D.
