Organization Overview The Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation is a not-for-profit organization based in Vancouver, BC, dedicated to supporting children, seniors, and individuals with special needs through innovative community projects that foster lifelong skills, independence, and connection. Our current major focus is Zajac Ranch, a fully accessible camp in Mission, BC, for children and young adults with complex medical conditions and disabilities. Located on over 41 acres of beautiful, forested land on the shores of Stave Lake, Zajac Ranch provides life-changing summer camp experiences and welcomes school groups, community groups, and private rentals during the off-season. Revenue generated from rentals helps support our medical summer camp programs. Location: Zajac Ranch, Mission, BC Reports To: Director, Facilities Employment Type: Full-time Compensation: $25 - $32/hr, commensurate with experience Zajac Ranch is seeking a hands-on and reliable Skilled Facilities Worker to join our Facilities team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, varied work and takes pride in keeping buildings, grounds, and shared spaces safe, functional, and welcoming. The successful candidate may bring experience in general maintenance, carpentry, basic plumbing, repairs, painting, groundskeeping, handyman work, or other skilled trades. We understand that candidates may not have experience in every area listed below. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to contribute where their skills are best suited. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities may include a combination of the following, depending on experience, skill set, and operational needs: Support the repair, upkeep, and maintenance of Ranch buildings and facilities Complete general handyman tasks, repairs, and preventative maintenance Assist with carpentry projects, including basic construction, repairs, and finishing work Assist with basic plumbing maintenance and repairs, including minor leaks, faucet and fixture repairs, toilet repairs, drain clearing, and other routine plumbing-related tasks Monitor plumbing systems, water fixtures, washrooms, kitchens, and utility areas to help ensure they remain safe, functional, and in good working order Identify and report larger plumbing concerns or issues requiring a licensed plumber or external contractor Perform painting, patching, servicing, and general building upkeep Support groundskeeping and yard maintenance, including lawn care, gardening, pruning, weeding, watering, and moving plants Assist with pressure washing, seasonal clean-up, and outdoor maintenance Chop and stack wood as needed Help ensure facilities are clean, safe, functional, and ready for campers, staff, guests, and rental groups Follow maintenance checklists, procedures, and work plans Identify and report maintenance concerns, hazards, or repair needs in a timely manner Work both independently and as part of the broader Ranch team Qualifications & Experience We welcome candidates with a variety of practical skills and backgrounds. Ideal candidates may have: 2–5 years of experience in maintenance, carpentry, facilities, construction, repairs, plumbing, or a related hands-on role Experience with general building repairs, maintenance, painting, carpentry, basic plumbing, or groundskeeping Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work through practical maintenance challenges Good time management and organizational skills The ability to take direction and complete tasks efficiently Strong communication skills and a team-oriented approach A positive, adaptable, and dependable attitude Pride in quality workmanship and attention to detail Candidates do not need to meet every qualification to be considered. Skills & Competencies General maintenance and repair skills Carpentry knowledge or willingness to assist with carpentry-related work Basic plumbing knowledge or willingness to assist with routine plumbing-related maintenance and repairs Strong attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to follow detailed checklists, safety procedures, and instructions Physical stamina for active, hands-on work Commitment to cleanliness, safety, and maintaining a welcoming environment Flexibility to support different projects and seasonal needs Health & Safety Follow all WorkSafeBC regulations and Zajac Ranch safety protocols Report hazards, unsafe conditions, plumbing concerns, and maintenance issues immediately Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and responsibly Contribute to a safe environment for campers, staff, visitors, and rental groups Physical Requirements Ability to lift approximately 25–50 lbs. Frequent bending, lifting, standing, walking, and hands-on physical work Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions Comfort working in a camp and rentals facility environment Work Environment Full-time position, typically Monday to Friday Work takes place onsite at Zajac Ranch in Mission, BC Seasonal fluctuations in workload based on summer camp, rentals, projects, and site needs Must have reliable transportation, as the Ranch is located in a rural area Must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search This position is well suited for someone living in Mission, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, or surrounding areas who is looking for meaningful, hands-on work in a beautiful and purpose-driven environment.
