Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Lead and support human health and ecological risk assessments, analyze exposures to soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water, soil vapour, and indoor air for various chemicals, in accordance with O. Reg. 153/04 and other provincial/federal risk assessment frameworks; Review Environmental Site Assessment reporting and data; complete data gap analysis to support data needs and requirements for risk assessment projects; Evaluate chemical data and complete contaminant fate & transport modelling; Communicate with internal and external clients; Mentor and train early- and mid-career level staff; Develop Human Health and Ecological Conceptual Site Models, complete quantitative and qualitative evaluations of risk, write risk assessment reports, and support development of risk management plans; Support Certificate of Property Use compliance reporting; Provide proposal support including scope development, scheduling, and budgeting; Provide project and/or task management support, including budget tracking and invoicing; Actively participate in professional societies, internal and external conferences and meetings, and client meetings.

Education and Licensure

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/toxicology, biological science, civil or chemical engineering, or related field. (required) Advanced degree in environmental science/toxicology, biological science, civil or chemical engineering or related field. (preferred)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

At least 7 years (8+ preferred) of human or ecological risk assessment experience in Ontario or equivlanet combination of education and experience. (required) Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (“QPRA”), or the ability to become recognized as QPRA per Section 6 of O. Reg. 153/04. In depth knowledge of O.Reg. 153/04 and other provincial/federal guidelines (i.e., Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment [CCME], Environment and Climate Change Canada [ECCC], Health Canada) for risk assessment. Strong data analysis skills including statistical analysis, experience with ProUCL or other statistical software programs an asset. Experience with environmental modeling tools such as MECP MGRA, J&E Model, Health Canada PQRA. Experience with Phase One and Two Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Phase Two Conceptual Site Models (CSMs) in accordance with both CSA and O.Reg. 153/04 requirements is considered an asset. Experience with US federal (RCRA) or state risk assessment an asset. Knowledge of O.Reg. 406/19 and experience with Beneficial Reuse Assessment Tool (BRAT) an asset. Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting quality/budget/schedule expectations. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Valid Canadian driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Below is the range that we in good faith believe is the potential compensation for this role at the time of this posting and is only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

Minimum Salary: $105,530/ Maximum Salary: $137,190 (Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, Guelph, Cambridge, Waterloo, ON)
