About the role
Overview Electrical Technologist – Field Based Shermco Canada Base Location: Manitoba Shermco Canada is seeking a Field Electrical Technologist to join our industry-leading electrical power system testing and commissioning team. As part of one of the largest and most respected field services organizations in the industry, you will perform hands-on testing, maintenance, and commissioning of medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment. Working alongside experienced technical professionals, you will support industrial, utility, and commercial clients by delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality field services. You will also have opportunities to share your knowledge with junior team members while continuing to develop your technical expertise. Responsibilities Perform field service work while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality standards. Provide technical support on-site by troubleshooting equipment, identifying issues, and assisting with problem resolution. Evaluate system conditions and recommend appropriate repairs, maintenance, or system improvements under the guidance of senior technical staff when required. Support the planning and execution of projects by coordinating assigned tasks, equipment, and resources to meet client and company expectations. Assist in resolving technical challenges, follow established safety procedures, and ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards. Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to junior technicians and apprentices through day-to-day coaching and hands-on support. Contribute technical expertise to projects involving: Transformer testing Industrial plant and utility protection & relaying Metering systems Switchgear testing and maintenance Power system studies and design support Substation testing, commissioning, and turnkey projects Qualifications 3–5 years of experience in electrical testing, field service, or power systems maintenance Working knowledge of power system testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting practices Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively as part of a team Experience providing day-to-day guidance and support to junior technicians is considered an asset Strong commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to company and industry standards Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Technical diploma or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems Technology, or a related electrical discipline preferred Why Join Shermco At Shermco Canada, you'll work on a wide range of electrical power system projects across the utility, industrial, and commercial sectors.
