Atholville Mill is currently recruiting for the following position: Instrumentation & Controls Apprentice – Electrical & Instrumentation Department Role Overview The successful applicant will work alongside experienced Instrumentation & Control Technicians within our E&I team, gaining hands-on experience while completing apprenticeship requirements. This position offers the opportunity to develop technical skills through a combination of practical field experience, mentorship, and formal apprenticeship training in a modern industrial environment. Responsibilities Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and process control systems used in pulp mill operations Assist in the installation, calibration, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of field instrumentation and analyzers (pressure, flow, level, temperature, consistency, pH, conductivity, etc.) Learn to maintain and troubleshoot DCS, PLC, VFD, and associated control systems related to instrumentation and automation Participate in loop checks, control loop tuning, and reliability inspections Assist with the installation and termination of instrumentation wiring and tubing in accordance with drawings and specifications Develop the ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Work closely with operations and maintenance personnel to support safe and reliable mill operations Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks and work orders under the guidance of qualified technicians Participate in equipment startups, shutdowns, reliability initiatives, and capital projects Identify and report deficiencies in instrumentation systems and equipment Follow all safety rules and procedures, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and working at heights Maintain apprenticeship logbook and successfully complete required apprenticeship training Qualifications, Skills & Abilities Registered Instrumentation & Control Technician Apprentice, or eligible to register in the apprenticeship program Recent graduates of a recognized Instrumentation & Control Technician program are encouraged to apply Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Knowledge of industrial instrumentation, process control systems, and electrical controls Exposure to PLCs, DCS systems, VFDs, and process automation considered an asset Previous industrial, maintenance, co-op, or trade-related experience considered an asset Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and instrumentation documentation Strong commitment to safety and continuous learning Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with operations and maintenance personnel Why AV Group NB Inc.?
