About the role

Wuxly is a Canadian leader in advanced textile integration, tactical apparel, smart textiles and soft-goods manufacturing—pairing design, pattern engineering, supply chain, and scalable production to deliver for defence and government clients. We operate as the commercial and operational bridge between breakthrough textile technologies and end users—acting as a systems integrator and program manager from concept to delivery. Our work sits in the dual-use arena: mission-ready solutions for Defence & Tactical, extreme cold weather (uniforms, outerwear, shelters, covers, concealment) alongside a growing consumer business, translating that same performance standard into premium outerwear and everyday gear built for real conditions. Our products and programs are executed under ISO 9001/14001 discipline and shaped by performance proven in the world’s harshest environments.

Wuxly is seeking a Design & Technical Product Developer, specializing in Outerwear Systems, to support the development of protective garments engineered for extreme environments and operational use. This role contributes to pattern engineering, material selection, and technical development of outerwear products focused on weather protection, durability, and performance within modular defence systems.

This position is ideal for a candidate with experience in technical apparel who is interested in advanced outerwear construction, protective fabric technologies, and material-driven design within a fast-paced, systems-focused product development environment.

Responsibilities:
Design & Technical Development

  • Develop patterns and construction methods for protective outerwear, including shells and insulated systems
  • Engineer garments for environmental protection (waterproofing, wind resistance, durability)
  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs including seam sealing, reinforcements, and closures
  • Ensure manufacturability while maintaining performance standards

Fit, Testing & Iteration

  • Lead fit sessions focused on mobility under load and compatibility with layered systems
  • Analyze field and lab testing results to refine garment performance
  • Resolve complex issues related to waterproofing, seam construction, and durability

Materials & Integration

  • Evaluate and specify technical fabrics, laminates, and trims
  • Collaborate with sourcing on material validation and supplier selection
  • Ensure materials meet performance and environmental requirements

Qualifications and Profile We’re Looking For:

  • Alignment with, and exemplification of Wuxly’s values (Unequivocal Excellence, Act Like an Owner, Drive Innovation, Row Together, Humble)
  • Diploma or degree in Apparel Design, Textile Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in technical apparel development, preferably in insulation or outerwear systems
  • Demonstrated experience with complex constructions (e.g., baffling, quilting, multi-layer assemblies)
  • Proficiency in Gerber (pattern and marker) and Adobe Illustrator
  • Experience developing production-ready tech packs and managing prototype iterations
  • Strong understanding of thermal systems, insulation materials, and layering strategies
  • Experience translating performance requirements into pattern and construction solutions
  • Familiarity with testing standards for thermal performance (preferred)
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong technical documentation skills
  • Comfortable working in iterative, test-driven development environments
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
