About the role
About ForceN ForceN is surpassing human manipulation through scalable force-torque sensing hardware, improving surgical precision and enabling the next generation of robotic sensing technology. ForceN designs and manufactures high-reliability, high-precision systems; leveraging a proprietary digitally-manufactured transducer film that can be wrapped around any surgical or robotic component to create a 'digital sense of touch'. ForceN's technology enables robotics and artificial intelligence companies to tackle complex robotic interaction and manipulation problems.
Our customers are world leaders in surgical, logistics, and frontier robotics. We accelerate our customers’ development in robotics manipulation by providing a robust, reliable, and scalable solution with industry-leading development and deployment time. About the Role ForceN is looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support the development, transfer, and scale-up of high-precision sensing systems from prototype builds to repeatable production. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with engineering, operations, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to turn innovative hardware designs into robust, scalable manufacturing processes. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing production workflows, improving manufacturability, creating process documentation, supporting tooling and fixture development, troubleshooting production issues, and driving continuous improvement in cost, quality, yield, and throughput.
Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for ForceN’s force-moment sensing systems and related electro-mechanical hardware. Support the scale-up of high-precision sensing products from prototype and pilot builds to larger-scale production. Collaborate with R&D, design engineering, and operations teams to identify and resolve DFM, process, quality, and manufacturability challenges. Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flows, assembly procedures, inspection requirements, and production records. Specify, develop, and improve tooling, fixtures, equipment, and production aids to support repeatable and efficient manufacturing. Work closely with contract manufacturers and suppliers to ensure processes are transferable, scalable, and capable of meeting quality and delivery requirements. Troubleshoot production issues on the manufacturing floor and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Continuously improve production workflows to increase throughput, reduce cost, improve yield, and enhance product reliability. Support machining, fabrication, assembly, and inspection activities, including tolerance review and communication with machine shops or external suppliers. Contribute to production readiness activities, including build planning, training, process validation, and transition from engineering builds to production. Prepare reports, updates, and presentations for internal stakeholders on manufacturing progress, risks, and improvement initiatives. Support a safe, organized, and compliant production environment, including training manufacturing personnel on relevant processes and safety requirements.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in electro-mechanical, robotics, sensing, precision hardware, medical device, or advanced manufacturing environments. Strong experience developing, improving, and scaling manufacturing processes from prototype to production. Proven ability to work with contract manufacturers, suppliers, machine shops, and internal technical teams. Hands-on understanding of manufacturing methods, assembly processes, machining, fabrication, tooling, fixturing, and production documentation. Strong ability to translate product designs into efficient, repeatable, and scalable manufacturing workflows. Familiarity with DFM, root cause analysis, corrective actions, quality controls, and continuous improvement methods. Experience working in ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485 manufacturing environments is an asset. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is an asset. Familiarity with CAD tools, Jira, production planning tools, and basic quality assurance methodologies is an asset. Python and/or C++ experience is an asset, particularly where relevant to automation, test systems, production tools, or data analysis. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hardware environment. Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, quality, suppliers, and production teams.
Why Join ForceN? Opportunity to work on cutting-edge force sensing technology for robotics, automation, surgical, logistics, and advanced manufacturing applications. Hands-on role with direct impact on product manufacturability, scalability, quality, and customer success. Collaborative, innovative, and fast-moving hardware start-up environment. Professional development and growth opportunities. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits package. Bonus and stock option compensation. Company-sponsored culture events. Dog-friendly, open-concept office environment.
Equal Opportunity ForceN is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experiences. We are committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone has the opportunity to contribute, grow, and succeed.
