Assistant Maintenance Manager
About the role
This is a full-time position and could involve working more than 8 hours per day and weekends as needed.
Responsible to the Mill Operations Manager, the Asssistant Maintenance Manager is responsible for supervising and directing maintenance personnel related to the day-to-day maintenance operations of the 3 facilities. The Assistant Maintenance Manager is responsible for all the repair and maintenance of building and equipment in the mills, for prioritizing jobs and evaluating and selecting the best method for accomplishing repairs. Working together with production staff, Maintenance personnel ensure that repair and maintenance have limiting impact on production, ensuring that amount of “downtime” is kept to a minimum. Also responsible for the management of fleet administration that supports the growth of fleet operations.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for following biosecurity and company related policies.
- Maintains knowledge of and executes all Company Safety Policies and Procedures as required by the organization and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintains knowledgeable of and executes all applicable WHMIS, TDG and Labor Canada safety rules and procedures
- Responsible for being self-motivated and being able to work independently.
- Maintains and represents a professional and positive image for the company at all times.
- Functions as a team member.
- Performs other related duties as assigned, including holiday relief coverage.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- The Assistant Maintenance Manager will be responsible and act as a primary point for Operation on mechanical repairs and maintenance of all the equipment and all fleet requirements in a hands-on approach and determine financial effectiveness and operational efficiency.
- Ensure the quality of the work performed by employees as well as by external contractors
- Complete Advanced Maintenance Management System (AMMS) program at all 3 facilities and maintain once complete.
- Schedule all Mill downtime with the Operations Manager directly.
- Responsible for providing a weekly written report to the Mill Managers of hours worked by maintenance crew separated out by project.
- Responsible for the Fleet Maintenance Control Report detailing inspections, concerns and downtime.
- Responsible for a monthly Fleet Tire Management Report which will include the inventory, purchasing, and usage of each item.
- Responsible for a written bimonthly report on goals in each of the 3 facility and a timeline of completion.
- Responsible for assisting in the aid of quarterly budgets for all 3 facilities with Operation Manager.
- Responsible for being on target with each budget.
- Responsible for an inventory tracking system for all tools, equipment and supplies including belting, steel, motors and spare equipment with the Maintenance Manager.
- Responsible for providing a minimum of 3 quotes for each capital project from potential contractors on all separate facets of work required with the Maintenance Manager.
- Responsible for bi-monthly focus meetings with the Mill Operations Manager.
- Responsible for Creating a National Safety code for Carriers to be stored on the M:/ drive.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and organization within the workshop. Ensure all tools and spare parts are warehoused in an efficient and safe manner.
- Responsible for managing, supervising and training of all Maintenance staff in correct repair and maintenance procedures, ensuring jobs are done safely and efficiently, ensuring that all requisite tasks are handled quickly and efficiently within budget restraints.
- Facilitate open and effective communications with other departments, ensuring optimal quality standards.
- Responsible for installing and maintaining production machines and the plant facilities,
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of all equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
- Operate computerized preventative maintenance program.
- Involved in all aspects of building maintenance requirements for all new construction, renovations or updates to current systems.
- Set priorities for preventative maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and organization within the workshop. Ensure all tools and spare parts are warehoused in efficient and safe manner.
- Assure vehicle-related functions and activities comply with established laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Negotiate contracts and service level agreements for third party suppliers and/or service providers.
- Research and evaluate new vehicles and coordinate the purchasing and assure optimal pricing and quality of vehicles for the business.
- Oversee the selling or disposal of used vehicles.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial experience
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 Education.
- A Millwright ticket.
- A class 4 boiler ticket would be an asset to the position.
- Leadership and supervisory skills
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Must have a good command of written and spoken English language.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver license, Class 1 desirable.
- Be able to cross the border is mandatory.
Salary: $72,925 to $90,843
