Laboratory Technician (RTP III)

School of Fisheries Marine Institute

(Contractual Position August 31stto December 18th, 2026)

The School of Fisheries (SOF) (www.mi.mun.ca/sof ) is part of the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University which is Canada’s most comprehensive centre for education, training, applied research and industrial support for the ocean industries. The School of Fisheries (SOF) delivers education and training programs to students interested in entering the aquaculture, fishing, environmental and food industries. Academic programs offered by the school range from short courses to industry certifications, diplomas of technology, joint diploma/bachelor degrees, advanced diplomas, post-graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, master's and PhD degrees.

DUTIES

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and set up laboratory equipment, chemicals, media and other requirements to ensure success of the SOF laboratory courses; maintain, clean and calibrate laboratory equipment; monitor inventory and place orders as required; following established ISO policies & procedures and maintaining relevant records; complying with established occupational health & safety and WHMIS regulations; and performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

(1-3 years) in a similar or related position; completion of a three-year diploma of technology or related degree with courses in chemistry and microbiology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Strong organizational, communication and time management skills are required.

SALARY: $50,815 – $65,994 per annum (Research and Technical Personnel III, NAPE Local 7405)
