Position Overview

The Engineering Manager will lead all engineering and design functions within the company. This individual will be responsible for CAD design, project feasibility evaluation, cost estimation, supplier coordination, technical documentation, and engineering oversight across all product lines. This role combines design leadership with practical project execution.

About Metal Press

Metal Press designs and supplies industrial machinery including hydraulic presses, die handling equipment, furnaces, temperature control systems and press brakes. Our various divisions serve manufacturers across North America. We are growing and are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead mechanical and electrical design, project engineering, technical sales support, and supplier coordination. This is a senior, high-impact role reporting directly to ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design Leadership

• Lead and oversee all design activities
• Create and revise CAD / SolidWorks drawings
• Convert legacy and PDF drawings to parametric CAD models
• Design assemblies, fixtures, and custom machine components
• Review and correct engineering drawings
• Establish drawing standards and revision control processes

Technical Project Evaluation

• Review potential projects for technical feasibility
• Provide direction and technical support to sales team
• Consult suppliers regarding project viability
• Write technical specifications for sold projects
• Ensure designs meet customer requirements and safety standards

Procurement & Costing

• Estimate project pricing and material costs
• Prepare full specification packages for supplier orders
• Work with vendors to confirm technical compliance

Documentation & Support

• Create machine user manuals and documentation
• Assist with commissioning documentation
• Resolve technical issues across all machinery product lines
• Provide post-sale engineering support

Leadership

• Head up engineering and design department
• Improve internal engineering processes
• Develop engineering standards and SOPs

Qualifications

Required:

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering a Must
• 7+ years experience in industrial machinery design
• Strong SolidWorks proficiency
• Experience in hydraulic, mechanical, electrical systems
• Experience reviewing supplier drawings and specs
• Strong technical communication skills

Preferred:

• Leadership experience
• Experience in press, furnace, or heavy industrial machinery
• Experience writing manuals or technical documentation
