POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading and optimizing Lauren’s engineering functions to ensure alignment with corporate strategy, client expectations, and operational performance. This role provides strategic oversight of engineering teams, discipline managers, engineering execution, and team development, while fostering cross-functional collaboration across all company departments and execution teams. The Director plays a key role in driving innovation, team growth and engagement, and strengthening client relationships to uphold Lauren’s reputation for technical excellence. A strong focus on continuous improvement and efficient resource management ensures high-quality, timely, and cost-effective project delivery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Team Leadership and Department Oversight Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering department, including both front-end and back-end teams, ensuring clear communication, collaboration, and alignment with organizational goals. Provide guidance to Managers and Team Leads, supporting professional development and a high-performance team culture. Project and Technical Oversight Oversee engineering project delivery from concept through execution, including goal setting, resourcing, timeline management, and risk mitigation. Promote and implement innovative engineering tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance project efficiency and quality. Systems and Standards Monitor engineering process performance and ensure projects are meeting the requirements set out by project leadership and the client. Guide the development and refinement of internal procedures to support operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Strategic Planning and Executive Collaboration Contribute to the development of departmental strategy and multi-year planning, identifying opportunities for growth and innovation within our markets. Responsible for engineering budgets, forecasting, and business planning activities; participate in executive meetings and support decision-making at the leadership level. Resource and Stakeholder Coordination Coordinate with managers and PMO for allocation of technical resources to meet project and organizational needs, ensuring efficient staff deployment and skills development. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful project integration and stakeholder satisfaction.
QUALIFICATIONS Experience, Training, and Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia or Alberta, with a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in the energy sector—preferably in a consulting environment—and a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Skills Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trust and lead high-performing teams. Proficiency in engineering and project management tools, and cloud-based technologies. Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Proven leader of engineers and engineering managers — skilled in motivation, conflict resolution, performance development, and building the trust and clarity that high-output teams require Knowledge In-depth knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and industry standards applicable to British Columbia and Alberta. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, compliance requirements, and digital transformation initiatives in engineering environments. Abilities Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor engineering teams across multiple disciplines. Ability to navigate complex challenges and make sound technical and strategic decisions. Ability to maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Monthly travel to Lauren’s offices.
The successful candidate can be based in Calgary, Vancouver, or Kelowna. Compensation based on experience.
