About the role
Atlantic Operations is a wholly owned subsidiary of St Barbara Limited, an ASX listed gold producer and explorer with mining assets in Canada and Australia.
We are currently seeking 2 Metallurgists in Training to support our Atlantic Operations. These roles are full time, max-term positions, reporting to the Senior Metallurgist and will be based at our Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, NS.
The Opportunity
Ensuring own Health & Safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices and completing all required safety training. Ensure gold recovery targets are met or exceeded in a safe and efficient manner by analyzing production trends, developing & optimizing metallurgical KPIs and providing systems by which these parameters can be monitored by the process operations team. Execute & report on metallurgical test programs and assist with the implementation & introduction of process metallurgical changes within the plant. Develop an operational knowledge of unit processes and equipment within all areas of the process plant. Provide technical input for department safety-training programs so that employees within other plant teams are provided with the opportunity to learn and apply skills that are aligned with the objectives of the metallurgical team and the company. Identify and suggest improvement ideas to increase the safe production performance. Create timely and accurate records within the site metallurgical accounting system and provide reporting according to site requirements. Monitoring & tracking of reagents and other consumables usage levels and compiling periodic consumption reports for plant & supply chain management. Assist with team and group operational and capital budgeting exercises including forecasting. Ensuring gold production targets are met or exceeded by assisting in the operation of the gold room including, but not limited to, electrowinning, cell washing, filtering, drying and smelting.
Our Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate The Following
University degree in Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or Material Sciences completed within the last 0–2 years. Registered (or eligible for immediate registration) as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers Nova Scotia. Unencumbered Class 5 driver's license. Prepared to address complex problems and solutions within a team setting. Able to use a computer effectively – automated maintenance programs and Microsoft Office. Ability to promptly respond to and effectively troubleshoot unforeseen mill shutdowns utilizing available materials and manpower resources. Collaborate effectively with colleagues within a multidisciplinary, fast-paced, and demanding environment. Diligent in product tracking from electrowinning harvest to shipment Must be physically fit and capable of repeated lifts of up to 25kg Ability to think critically about problems and to select the right tool to complete the diagnostic.
