Job Summary The Machinist is vital to our operations, providing support for activity in development of new technologies to the manufacturing and repair of our proprietary equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end production of various machine parts used in instrument assembly. You must be capable of independently planning and executing work orders. The preferred candidate will have previous experience managing a general machining job shop and you bring a wealth of practical knowledge in other skills which include CAD/CAM (either Solidworks or Autocad Fusion), basic welding, sheet metal forming/bending, heat treat, coatings and additive manufacturing.
Key ResponsibilitiesManufacturing & Technical Operations Precision General Machining: Execute detailed milling and turning operations to produce high-quality components. CNC Programming & Setup: Develop cost effective tool paths, machine setup and operation of CNC lathes and mills across multiple stages/operations. Tooling & Fixturing: Create custom tools and/or fixtures to support machining processes. Technical Troubleshooting: Refine and debug CNC post-processors (as needed) to improve machine safety and operational efficiency. Core Responsibilities Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine equipment maintenance, including coolant and oil management, while maintaining a clean and safe workspace. Workflow Coordination: Organize daily activities, request supplier quotes (RFQs), and manage the procurement of necessary materials and tooling. Administrative Integration: Use internal data control systems to manage work orders, purchase orders, and track time accurately. You have a strong understanding of Google Workspace, specifically Google Sheets. Problem Solving: Develop innovative devices, fixtures and solutions to assist other production and assembly departments. Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to add insight into designs that improve manufacturing efficiency. Conditions of Employment Completion of a recognized machinist apprenticeship or equivalent trade certificate is required AND you have been working at least 5 years as a general machinist. You have experience interpreting engineering drawings, sketches, and verbal instruction to produce parts. However, you are just as comfortable working strictly from CAD models to produce parts. Applicants must have complete fluency in CAM applications used for CNC programming. Preference will be given to applicants who can work with either SolidWorks CAM or Autodesk Fusion. You are confident in machining ANY material which includes: aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, steels, polymers, fiberglass and carbon composites. Proficiency in machine service and repair. The incumbent is required to complete routine service on the machine tools in the machine shop and as needed in the various areas of related production in the company. Ability to think creatively to design and make devices to improve the quality of life for any of the various production, assembly or equipment testing areas of the company.
