Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work setting: Automotive manufacturing. General manufacturing. Tasks: Compute dimensions and tolerances of machine parts. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables. Set up and adjust production machineries/tools. Fit and assemble components and machine parts to close tolerance. Verify dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers). Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools. Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Specialized machining processes: Water jet. Equipment and machinery experience: Boring machines. Drill presses. Milling machines. Planers. Sawing machine. Tapping machines. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to work independently. Fast-paced environment. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots.
