About this Position

The Aircraft Certification Authority (ACA) plays a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of Canadian North’s diverse fleet, performing both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Boeing 737 and ATR aircraft. Our fleet includes Boeing 737-300, 737-400, and 737-700 series, as well as ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft, many of which operate in combi configurations to transport both passengers and cargo across remote northern regions.

This role involves installing, repairing, and replacing the sheet metal components of an aircraft, including various structural assemblies and sub-assemblies. Responsibilities include performing complex structural repairs to keep aircraft up to specifications, fabricating replacement parts as needed, and completing sheet metal projects with accuracy and precision. The role also requires the safe use of machinery and tools involved in sheet metal work, the ability to follow directions, and the ability to read blueprints and schematics to understand product assignments.

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Heavy Maintenance West

Level: As per the GAFAE Collective Agreement. Placement is determined by job classification and relevant experience.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Eligible for overtime as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

• Perform sheet metal activities on various aircraft and projects undertaken at the YEG facility;
• Responsible for having their assignment approved by the applicable Supervisor or Manager for their work;
• Assist activities carried out by the interior group;
• Responsible to be familiar with all procedures necessary to follow for the maintenance or repairs to the aircraft and equipment;
• Ensure all work carried out is properly documented in accordance with the procedures manual;
• Provide the appropriate ACA release as required;
• Comply with all safety regulations at all times;
• Ensure that all items of work are listed recorded and signed out on the appropriate work cards;
• Perform work procedures, while ensuring that approved methods and materials are used in a safe, efficient and economical manner;
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

• High School diploma and be a graduate from an approved training program;
• Minimum 5 years of related experience;
• Experience on ATR 42 and B- 737 considered an asset;
• Must hold a valid Transport Canada “S” license;
• Ability to work completely independently;
• Must be willing to travel;
• Must hold valid driver's license;
• Must have excellent organizational skills,
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
• Must possess superior interpersonal and communication skills for internal and external customers;
• Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
• Ability to obtain and retain a Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
