The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an Apprentice Industrial Mechanic ? this position will be responsible for the maintenance tasks and duties of the food processing plant, including office buildings and all production equipment and machinery.

The ideal candidate will have completed or be enrolled in a program toward obtaining the Provincial Industrial Mechanic Certificate 433A as a minimum; should hold a valid driver's license; experience in a food manufacturing facility preferred; highly skilled in mechanical assembly industry specific experience (food processing); knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics, and good welding and fabrication skills; ability to lift fifty (50) pounds when required; good customer service skills to interact with other employees and external contacts; excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work well with others; highly self-motivated with self-initiative and the ability to work without direct supervision.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Starting wage will be dependent upon experience
  • Hold and maintain a current Industrial Mechanic Apprentice Certificate and valid drivers license
  • Work at all times within O.H.S.A. guidelines and regulation
  • Read blueprints to determine the size and nature of installations
  • Provide maintenance repairs to all mechanical process including hydraulics and pneumatics to ensure safety, quality, production& maintenance requirements are achieved
  • Ability to troubleshoot & repair automated production equipment including form & seal vacuum packaging equipment, meat slicers and sauce injectors.
  • Examine and adjust equipment and production machinery
  • Support the operation of the plant and identify potential areas for concern by doing daily rounds, record findings and using their ability to prioritize work effectively
  • Fabrication, modifications and overhauling of equipment
  • Installation and maintenance of electric motors, including rigs and hoists
  • Work on machinery, clutches, brakes, bearings and seals
  • Maintain conveyors and control systems
  • Testing and performing preventative inspections and maintenance
  • Order parts through the Parts Clerk that are required immediately for a mechanical or electrical repair
  • Experience with small electrical repairs
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve production operations, streamline work and control and reduce costs
  • Decrease turnaround times for equipment breakdowns and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless service
  • Respond to any of the mechanical needs in the building and support offices
  • Work with a sense of urgency with regards to production equipment breakdowns
  • Work with other members of the ma
