Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Are you passionate about mining? Do you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? If you are an experienced mining professional who excels in safe and efficient inspection, maintenance and repairs associated with the mine shaft system, we want you on our team!

Role Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Mine Operations, the Shaftman will be responsible for safe and efficient inspection, maintenance and repairs associated with the mine shaft system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspects, repairs, and replaces mine shaft parts, like timbers, cage guides, guardrails, and cable, using handtools;
  • Tightens joints of compressed air, steam and water pipes in shaft, using pipe wrenches;
  • May build doors brattices of canvas or wood; and
  • May erect partitions of concrete, concrete block, or brick.

What You Bring to the Table

  • 3-5 years underground experience as a shaftman;
  • Must be accredited in U/G common core modules;
  • Accreditation in specialty modules would be an asset;
  • Strong safety focus; and
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently.

Working Conditions

  • 7 days on, 7 days off – rotating schedule – 12 hour shifts

Pay/Shift Range**:** $37.70 - $46.14CAD
