Statistical Analyst

Full time temporary

Reporting to the Manager, Psychometrics and Data Science, the Statistical Analyst supports MCC’s operational, research, and project work through advanced statistical analysis and data-driven insights. Working closely with a team of analysts and psychometricians, the role contributes to the analysis of exam and related data, ensuring quality, accuracy, and reliability across systems and processes.

The Statistical Analyst also supports the maintenance and enhancement of scoring systems, contributes to research initiatives, and identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness across MCC’s assessment programs.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct routine and ad hoc statistical analyses using SAS (and Python/SQL as needed) to support exam processing, scoring, quality assurance, and research activities.
  • Apply statistical and psychometric methods to analyze data, identify trends or irregularities, investigate root causes, and recommend improvements.
  • Translate complex data into clear summaries, reports, tables, and visualizations, and communicate insights to psychometricians and stakeholders.
  • Apply statistical models to address research questions and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance scoring systems and analytical tools, with a strong focus on SAS programming, alongside Python and SQL.
  • Design, build, and manage datasets and databases to support analysis and reporting needs.
  • Automate reporting processes (e.g., technical and executive reports), improving efficiency and consistency through SAS-based solutions.
  • Lead and support testing approaches (e.g., simulations, test scenarios) to validate data, models, and scoring systems.
  • Translate business needs into technical specifications and data-driven solutions.
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation for SAS code, analytical processes, and tools.
  • Collaborate with psychometricians and team members to support research, projects, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

What you need to succeed

Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience in data analysis, reporting, and utilizing advanced statistical analytics techniques.

Technical Skills 

  • Demonstrated experience with statistical inference and statistical modeling (e.g., regression models, clustering, factor analysis) using Python or SAS. Experience with machine learning algorithms is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with interpreting data and analyzing results using statistical techniques, developing processes of data cleaning and preparation, and assessing data quality.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining databases
  • Experience with automating reports and other forms of data visualization.
  • Experience with documenting code and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Python programming (data extraction, data wrangling, analysis, visualization).
  • Proficiency in SAS programming (standard SAS procedures including PROC SQL, PROC Report, PROC SGPLOT and SAS Macros) to conduct analysis and generate customized reports.
  • Proficiency in developing complex and customized SQL queries for relational databases.
  • Knowledge of research and measurement principles and procedures.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Power BI) is an asset.
  • Experience with collaborating on writing research reports and publications is an asset.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

Education

  • Masters in statistics, mathematics, educational measurement, psychometrics, psychology, quantitative methodologies or equivalent

Language

  • Advanced oral and written skills in English are required, with oral and written skills in French considered an asset
