KMC specializes in high-performance alloys and friction materials from raw materials to finished products under one roof in Orillia, Canada. Manufacturing unique heat-resistant alloys and high-nickel/chrome alloys primarily for the petrochemical industries, Kubota leads the industry in quality and advanced technology. As per customer requirements, Kubota designs and casts centrifugal pipes and static castings of fittings, which are then machined, welded (Automatic, Semi-Automatic, Orbital & Manual), GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, followed by in-house NDT (RT, PT, VT), in-house DT, R&D lab, as well as hydro testing.

Summary:

Responsible for the safe setup and operation of all machines, machining static and petrochemical castings. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Safely set up and operate all manual machines as per SOP, machining static and petrochemical castings.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment and follow all safety protocols, including wearing prescribed PPE.
  • Safely follow ISO-standard routing instructions and accurately record required information on operator work sheets by heat numbers.
  • Safely operate machines to meet required tolerances with minimal direction and meet product specifications and standards.
  • Be proactive in diagnosing and preventing material and equipment issues.
  • Report any defective equipment or parts to the Supervisor and/or Lead Hand promptly.
  • Safely and in a timely manner, troubleshoot and resolve all machining issues, as incurred.
  • In a safe manner, grind custom tools on a pedestal grinder within our health and safety operating instructions.
  • Carefully set up and operate VDF lathes for advanced tasks (turning to tight tolerances, parting off, facing grooves, radius shoulders).
  • Securely set up and correctly operate equipment and machinery including, but not limited to: portable bevellers; horizontal boring mills.
  • Undertake other related tasks and functions as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education required
  • Have successfully obtain the Machinist Apprenticeship Certification is preferred, Red Seal consider an asset.
  • 4 years’ experience in a Machining department within a Manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or SAP systems is an asset.
  • Ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload, and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Proficient in the use of common precision measuring tools – Vernier, micrometer bore gauges etc.
  • Understanding of machine surface requirements and tolerances.
  • Knowledgeable in machine shop maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to use overhead cranes and jib hoists to move products as required as an asset.
  • Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Physical / Psychological Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects, often exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and twisting throughout the shift.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and using hand tools.
  • Good hand-eye coordination is essential for precision work.
  • Exposure to noise, requiring the use of hearing protection.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including extreme heat and cold environments, (PPE provided).
  • Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
  • Rotating Shift work; Day, Evening and Overnight on a two-week rotation.
