About the role
APPRENTICE CARPENTER
The Apprentice Carpenter on the Hibco team is responsible for supporting the construction, installation, and maintenance of various projects, including residential, commercial, modular, and/or restoration work. Under the guidance of experienced carpenters, this role involves hands-on tasks across all areas of carpentry, from framing to finishing, while gaining the skills necessary to progress to a fully skilled carpenter. This position reports to the Field Manager.
The ideal Apprentice Carpenter is eager to learn, proactive in seeking guidance, and committed to developing skills across different types of construction, while maintaining a positive attitude and strong work ethic on the job site.
*Responsibilities include but are not limited to: *
- Assist in the assembly and installation of various building components, including framing, roofing, siding, and interior finishes for residential, commercial, modular, and/or restoration projects.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood and other materials to meet project specifications.
- Install, repair, and maintain drywall, flooring, windows, doors, and other structures within building units.
- Safely and effectively use hand tools, power tools, and equipment to complete carpentry tasks.
- Assist in the installation of cladding, flashing, and insulation.
- Ensure all work meets building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Follow blueprints, technical drawings, and instructions to complete tasks accurately.
- Learn and apply industry best practices and safety procedures on every job site.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, fellow apprentices, and other team members.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, and other learning opportunities to enhance carpentry skills.
- Maintain and care for tools and equipment.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning as needed.
- Supporting with a variety of tasks and needs as they arise to ensure we are successful in all aspects.
*Requirements: *
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of prior construction experience, with a focus on carpentry or related trades.
- Class 5 Drivers License with clean Driver?s Abstract, a reliable transportation is required.
- Criminal Record Check clearance
- CSTS 2020 & WHMIS 2015 certification are required
- Additional safety certifications such as First Aid, Fall Protection, or others are considered an asset.
- Hibco often has projects throughout Alberta and across western Canada. Willingness to travel out of town for work is considered an asset.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions.
- General hand and power tools required; specialty tools provided by Hibco.

Work Conditions:
- Primarily work on residential, commercial, modular, and/or restoration construction job sites, handling tasks in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or in challenging environments (e.g., uneven terrain, dusty, or noisy conditions).
- Physical labor required, including lifting heavy materials and equipment.
- Must be comfortable working in all stages of construction, from demolition to final installation and finishing.
