Precast Manager (Major Rail & Elevated Infrastructure Project – Toronto, Canada)

Description

Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services (www.protecnium.com/en). We are currently looking for a Precast Manager to join our team for a Major Rail and Elevated Infrastructure Project in Toronto, Canada (on-site position).

Project: Elevated Guideway, Stations, and Rail Infrastructure Works

Estimated duration of the position: +24 months- In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.

Summary

We are looking for an experienced Precast Manager with a strong background in civil infrastructure, precast concrete, prestressed concrete, structural segments, elevated guideways, bridges, transit, rail, or heavy civil construction.

The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating all precast-related activities for the project, including production oversight, subcontractor coordination, quality assurance, technical verification, logistics, delivery planning, and interface with construction teams.

This is a highly technical and coordination-intensive role. The ideal candidate must be capable of working closely with precast suppliers, subcontractors, QA/QC teams, engineering teams, construction management, logistics teams, and site supervisors to ensure that all precast elements meet project requirements before they are delivered and installed.

Main Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate all precast concrete activities related to the project. Oversee the production, inspection, delivery, storage, handling, and installation readiness of precast and prestressed concrete elements. Coordinate with precast manufacturers, subcontractors, suppliers, engineering teams, QA/QC teams, and site construction teams. Verify that precast elements are manufactured in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, tolerances, quality standards, and project requirements. Monitor the full production cycle, including rebar installation, embeds, formwork, prestressing operations, concrete placement, vibration, curing, stripping, finishing, repairs, storage, and loading. Ensure that precast segments, beams, panels, girders, and other structural components comply with applicable project specifications and industry standards. Review and coordinate inspection and test plans, quality records, shop drawings, method statements, non-conformance reports, corrective actions, and technical documentation. Work closely with QA/QC teams to verify concrete mixes, slump/spread, strength results, dimensional tolerances, lifting points, inserts, embedded items, and finish quality. Identify technical issues, quality deviations, production constraints, delivery risks, and interface conflicts, escalating them as required. Coordinate logistics with subcontractors and project teams to ensure that precast elements are delivered safely, correctly sequenced, and aligned with the construction schedule. Support planning teams with production forecasts, casting schedules, delivery sequences, crane availability, installation windows, storage areas, and site access constraints. Ensure traceability of precast elements from production through delivery and installation. Participate in technical meetings with subcontractors, designers, construction teams, and project management. Support the resolution of RFIs, NCRs, field issues, quality observations, and constructability concerns related to precast components. Promote a strong safety culture during precast production, transportation, lifting, handling, storage, and installation operations. Ensure that subcontractors follow approved procedures, safety requirements, lifting plans, rigging practices, and site protocols. Track KPIs related to production progress, quality performance, delivery compliance, rework, NCRs, and schedule impacts. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve production efficiency, reduce rework, improve quality, and optimize coordination between plant, logistics, and site teams.

Requirements

Requirements

Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in precast concrete, prestressed concrete, structural concrete, or heavy civil infrastructure projects. Proven experience managing precast production, logistics, and installation processes. Strong knowledge of precast concrete manufacturing and quality control procedures. Experience working on rail, transit, bridge, elevated guideway, or major infrastructure projects. Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, engineering teams, and QA/QC personnel. Strong understanding of technical documentation, inspections, testing procedures, and construction specifications. Excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills. English level: C1 (Advanced).
