About the role

Position Summary

The Level 4 Millwright Apprentice supports the maintenance team in ensuring all manufacturing equipment and facility systems operate safely and efficiently. Working under the guidance of a Red Seal Journeyperson, this role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production equipment while continuing to build technical skills and experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime
  • Support the Journeyperson Millwright in diagnosing mechanical issues and implementing effective solutions
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities on equipment, including conveyors, pumps, motors, and automated systems
  • Assist with equipment inspections and identify potential maintenance issues
  • Participate in scheduled shutdowns and maintenance projects
  • Accurately complete maintenance records and document work performed
  • Support inventory management of spare parts and maintenance supplies
  • Work closely with Production and Engineering teams to support equipment performance and reliability
  • Follow all safety procedures and ensure proper machine guarding is in place
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
  • Work overtime or respond to after-hours calls as required to support operations
  • Continue progressing through apprenticeship training and development
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

  • Willingness to learn and take direction from Journeypersons 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills 

  • Team-oriented with good communication skills 

  • High level of initiative, reliability, and accountability 

  • Commitment to safety and following procedures

Education and Experience

  • Registered Level 4 Millwright Apprentice (or equivalent level of apprenticeship progression) 
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is an asset 
  • Basic knowledge of: 
    • Mechanical systems (pumps, motors, conveyors)
    • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
    • Automated production equipment
  • Exposure to PLCs and automated systems is an asset 
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals  

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.

  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to wear the appropriate PPE required for the environment location (i.e. departments - production, secondary, glue hut etc)
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • The individual possesses fine hand manipulation (keyboarding) skills.
  • Complete a pre-employment medical and/or pulmonary testing etc, as required.

  • Manufacturing environment
    • The temperature will vary from hot to cold, depending on the weather and location.
  • Must be able to adapt to the noise level of a manufacturing setting, which is usually moderate to heavy. 
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a computer, phone, printer/scanner, and filing cabinets. 
  • Hands-on engagement with employees, leaders, and internal teams
