Your Role

1QBit is looking for an expert in the field of Quantum Error Correction (QEC) to work on theoretical and practical aspects of fault-tolerant quantum computing. Our Research and Development team is looking for high-calibre scientists who are excited to contribute to the development of emerging technologies that will enable scalable and applicable quantum computing.

This position offers remote working within Canada. Salary range $110-130,000.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and analyze quantum error correction codes for various physical realizations of quantum hardware
  • Design and analyze novel architectures based on quantum LDPC codes, as well as design logical gate implementations on such architectures
  • Perform simulations of realistic quantum hardware noise models and conduct benchmarking studies of their impacts on the performance of various fault-tolerant quantum computing protocols
  • Work alongside peers with unique and creative backgrounds in physics, computer science, mathematics, operations research, and engineering
  • Constantly learn through your work as well as active engagement with the academic and industrial research community
  • Present to and learn from collaborators
  • Contribute to generating reports, drafting patents, authoring publications, and attending conferences

What You’ll Bring

  • A PhD in computer science, physics or mathematics, with a strong educational focus on quantum error correction and/or fault-tolerant quantum computation methods
  • A strong research track record in the fields of quantum error correction codes and/or fault-tolerant quantum computing, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or top-tier conference presentations
  • Advanced knowledge of concepts and methods of topological quantum error correction codes (e.g., surface codes and colour codes), stabilizer formalism and lattice surgery
  • Research experience with quantum low-density parity-check codes (qLDPC codes) would be a strong asset
  • Proficiency in scientific programming skills in any language (e.g., Python, C/C++, Rust, Julia)

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of related mathematical subdisciplines, such as group theory and topology
  • Familiarity with decoders and decoding algorithms for quantum error correction
  • Knowledge of quantum channels and quantum noise models
  • Familiarity with quantum resource estimation
  • Knowledge of computational complexity, design and asymptotic analysis of algorithms
  • Familiarity with classical optimization theory would be a great asset
  • Unix/Linux and software development skills
  • Research independence: the ability to take responsibility and initiative to conduct your research as it is required in working towards the common goal.
