About the role
The Environmental Specialist provides support to the Director of Environmental Stewardship by implementing corporate environmental programs, ensuring consistent regulatory compliance across operations, and providing coaching and technical guidance to local resources at Kruger’s operational sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate Program Implementation
- Support site resources in implementing corporate environmental policies, standards, and procedures across all operations.
- Assist and collaborate in the development of guidance documents and best practices.
- Promote consistent interpretation and application of regulatory requirements.
- Support the preparation and delivery of routine environmental meetings.
- Maintain effective working relationships with industry associations.
Environmental Compliance Oversight and Support
- Provide subject matter expertise on environmental regulatory requirements to support and coach production site teams.
- Collaborate with site teams to manage and resolve non-compliance issues.
- Identify and facilitate the sharing of best practices and lessons learned across sites.
Auditing and Monitoring
- Lead and participate in the Company’s internal environmental compliance audit program.
- Track and follow up on identified corrective actions to ensure timely and effective resolution.
- Participate in the review of the environmental aspects, risks, and opportunities of the various sites and major projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation.
EXPERIENCE
- 5 to 8 years of experience in environmental roles in the industrial sector, preferably in the pulp and paper sector.
- Experience with air emissions and effluent treatment systems.
- Strong understanding of environmental media (air, water, waste, soil, noise) and associated management practices.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) is an asset.
- Demonstrated project management and reporting experience.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with multiple levels within the organization,
both as a leader and an individual contributor.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Autonomy, resourcefulness, and strong ability for analyzing and synthesizing information.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to multitask while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Available to travel to the Company's various locations when required.
LANGUAGES
- Fluency in both French and English is required.
Knowledge of both French and English is required for this specific position as Kruger deals with partners across North America and the successful candidate will be required to communicate frequently with them. Kruger has taken all reasonable steps to avoid imposing English language requirements, including assessing the actual language needs associated with the duties to be performed, ensuring that the language skills already required of other employees were insufficient for the performance of those duties, and limiting as much as possible the number of positions with duties requiring English language skills.
